I am a Primary School teacher, currently working in Year 3 and about to complete my NQT year (which has flown by and been absolutely brilliant!) following completion of my PGCE at the University of Cambridge. As this is my first year of teaching, the majority of my resources are aimed at Year 3 students though I have a number of children with SEN so activities are differentiated many ways. Usually they follow a 'mild, medium, spicy' format with further differentiation for additional needs.

Aladdin reading comprehension 6 week unit

(0)
Based on Philip Pullman's Aladdin version, a series of 6 lessons looking at different extracts (in chronological order) and answering a series of comprehension questions focusing on clarification, inference, author's choice and providing evidence with answers. The lessons follow a structure (outlined in the document) that encourages more discussion around answers rather than just giving children a text and them answering questions independently. There is a document with suggested answers though you may be surprised some of the things the children come up with for 'what do you think' questions. Supporting notebook with coloured slides separating the different sessions. Hope this is of use to you!

Labelling activity differentiated 3 ways (mild, medium, spicy) using a real picture of a plant not a drawing (more realstic to children!). Extension questions for early finishers, lesson plan with link to useful video and a 'concept cartoon'. Concept cartoons are discussion areas for the beginning and end of lessons. They are a simple idea where pupils can imagine themselves being someone in the picture, asking questions, to make it more meaningful for them.

Covers national curriculum strands about understanding nutrition and diet. Looks at the different food groups with meal planning activities, making a healthy plate and sorting foods. This was really practical and engaging. We had some deep discussions about food types and the children were confident taking healthy eating beyond 'healthy and unhealthy' into carbohydrates, fats, proteins, sugars etc.
