A differentiated lesson based on the Activate 2 (P1.3) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson covers the meaning of potential difference and how to measure it, a brief mention of the key words 'series' and 'parallel' and their meaning, and a brief introduction to p.d. ratings on batteries. There is then class wide AFL with the use of planner (red, green and yellow) cards covering the information above. Students then progress to a simple practical activity where they measure p.d. across different components; battery packs, connection leads, voltmeters, bulbs and switches are required. A 'stretch' question sheet is included if students progress ahead of time, the answers for this are incorporated into the slides. The plenary is based on student reflection against the learning objectives, answers can be read out and 'pop corned' between peers.

A full lesson based on the new AQA C5.1 SOW but can be used for others. The lesson starts off covering 7 key properties of metals, students are guided to categorise certain properties to metals or non-metals as you work through the slides. Oxidation/reduction in metal ores is then discussed ahead of the meaning and relevance of the reactivity series during a short talk, during which students are prompted to take notes of key points. A demonstration is then conducted where metals are reacted with water and then dilute acid (instructions included). During this demonstration students must determine the order of the reactivity series. The students will then independently attempt questions based on the demonstration they have observed. As a final plenary students will reflect on their progress against the learning objectives. All answers are included in the slides, with animation to facilitate questioning during self/peer correction. Timers are included to promote pace.

This is a full, differentiated lesson based on the new AQA (B4.3) SOW but could be used for others. The lesson includes heart structure, the atria, ventricles and associated arteries and veins. Student understanding is checked by a differentiated question grid challenge. Students then conduct the heart dissection practical, a demo is useful here but a video is included. The lesson then covers coronary heart disease and is followed by a past exam question for AFL. The plenary is based on students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives.

A full 1h lesson covering the topic of waves. The lesson is based on the Activate 1 (P2.1) SOW but can be used for others. All activities are incorporated into the slides with no additional worksheets required. A slinky is required for a brief demonstration alongside white boards for AFL. Students are asked to perform a Mexican wave during the early stages of the lesson to visualise how energy (but not matter) is transferred within a wave. The plenary is based in students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives, this can be made fun by throwing a soft toy between students and asking them to read out their answers.

It then focuses on athletes foot and rose black spot - red font is used to indicate where students should take notes. A differentiated question grid is used to apply learning/conduct AFL (answers included). The lesson then covers malaria ahead of a final PP question (answers included). There is then a short quiz based on the lessons content - students can be elected to answer by throwing round a soft toy or whiteboards can be used. All content is incorporated into the slides, no additional worksheets needed. The lesson is based on students drawing their own conclusions from given information or data. An activity is included where students determine where in the classroom sound would travel fastest, based on the speed of sound through different materials. A think pair and share session around thunder and lightening is used to compare the speed of light and sound. The main written exercise is a differentiated 'beat the grid challenge' where students answer as many questions as they can in 10 minutes. The plenary is based upon reflection against the learning objectives, students can be instructed to read out tier answers and popcorn this on to a peer.

A full, differentiated lesson based on the new AQA SOW (C5.7). A starter where students categorise items as acidic, alkaline or neutral is used to determine preconceived knowledge. Following this the pH range, acids, bases, and alkalis are discussed making use of examples. Students are prompted to take notes at key points using red font and a pen symbol. The release of H+ and OH- ions is also discussed ahead of methods in determining the pH of solutions. Knowledge is then applied to a differentiated question grid followed by peer/self-marking. A practical exercise (tailored to (C5.7) is then conducted where students prepare a pH curve by systematically adding acid to an alkaline solution using a burette, and monitoring the pH using a probe. Note, pipettes and universal indicator can be used as simple alternatives respectively. Stretch questions are included for the more able. The plenary is based on students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives. All answers are incorporated into the slides facilitating self/peer marking and timers are included to promote pace.

The lesson outlines key information relating to the digestive system and enzymes, students fill in a table handout during the presentation of these slides. The table is then self/peer marked to ensure key information is present. The practical is then introduced (a brief demonstration may be beneficial here) to and conducted by the students. Those who finish in good time are prompted to draw a graph and identify the variables within the experiment. An extra stretch is based on students suggesting improvements to the techniques used during the experiment. This is followed by a discussion of results and ‘what should of been seen’.
