This a 5 lesson scheme of work to teach students about the instruments of the orchestra. This scheme can be used for KS2, KS3 or KS4. The aims of the scheme are: - To understand that the instruments are classified into 4 different families - To be able to identify the different instruments found in the orchestra - To understand how instruments produce, manipulate and amplify sound - To design and make their own musical instruments - To compose a piece of music using their own instruments - To complete a written assessment which also includes listening questions This resource includes the Scheme of work, detailed PowerPoints including pictures and audio to teach all the instruments, a homework task to produce an instrument and a final topic assessment (audio also included). This resource includes opportunity for both teacher and self-assessment.

This is a 7 lesson SOW to teach Minimalism. This comes with a topic booklet containing all learning objectives, worksheets, listening activities, and self & peer-assement tools. There is also a powerpoint presentation for each lesson. Key features covered in this topic: - Background to minimalism - What is minimalism? - Cells - Ostinato - Phasing - Layering - Metamorphosis - Addition - Subtraction - Augmentation - Diminution - Performing 'Clapping Music' by Steve Reich - Listening activities for 'Pendulum Music' by Steve Reich, 'Facades' by Philip Glass, and 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield - Composing a cell and then developing this into a full piece using the techniques taught above. Designed for year 8 or 9 to help prepare them for GCSE music. Focussing on keywords and composition skills. Will really help give students techniques for developing a melody.

This is a 5 lesson scheme of work for teaching African Drumming. This resource includes the SOW, PowerPoints for each lesson and a detailed topic booklet that includes all the activities. I use this SOW with Year 8 but it could be used for any KS3 or KS4 class. There is a strong focus on keywords and also the technique for performing on Djembes. Requires Djembes but could be adapted for use with other percussion instruments.

This is a 5 week scheme of work to teach Film Music. This includes a topic workbook, PowerPoints for all the lessons (including audio & videos), a scheme of work and a teacher assessment sheet. This scheme of work is suitable for both KS3 & KS4 students and covers a range of musical features and vocabulary. Students have the opportunity to learn about and compose a leitmotif as well as music to accompany a film clip (Fast & Furious).
