This lesson examines the different ways people can resist oppression and the creative and brave resistance offered by many Jews and their allies during the Holocaust. This lesson was designed after completing the UCL course on Understanding the Holocaust. This lesson is lesson 2 in my sequence of learning and examines the nature of antisemitic prejudice in Germany as well as escalation of persecution in order for students to better understand how and why having rights taken away is such a dangerous step. Also helps students to understand the nature of Hitler’s dictatorship and why it was so difficult to oppose him. Fully resourced lesson. Includes powerpoint and worksheet (timeline activity). This lesson was designed after completing the UCL course on teaching the Holocaust. It focuses on Pre War Jewish life in Europe and is an introduction to the Holocaust topic. Students cannot necessarily understand the gravity of what was lost in the Holocaust if they do not have a grasp of Jewish life and contribution to life before it. Edexcel Politics Alevel but can be used for AQA. This knowledge organiser has useful and up to date information for Topic 1 Constitution and Federalism including debates on whether the amendment process is fit for purpose and whether the constitution needs reform. Includes key words, case studies and models of federalism as well as different examples under every president since 2000. Document is a 2 slide powerpoint and covers Edexcel Topic 1 Constitution and Federalism.

Another retrieval activity for the Tudor Rebellions OCR ALevel course. This one randomly jumbles words and facts which are linked to the 5 rebellions against Henry VII. Students can colour code them according to which rebellion they are relevant to then as an extension they can try and add more detail about the facts. Eg which places are sites of battles? Which are attempted invasions etc. Answers also included for teachers new to the course or for self-assessment.

The amazing story of Harriet Tubman. Worksheet to accompany the film “Harriet” 2019 which tells the amazing story of the brave and courageous Harriet Tubman who worked on the Underground Railroad to help lead over 70 enslaved people to freedom from states such as Maryland to the free North. The worksheet has questions designed to help students understand the brutality and insidious nature of slavery as well as why what the Anti-Slavery Society and Tubman achieved was so impressive and important.

Edexcel GCSE History This lesson examines the ways in which Lanfranc changed the Saxon Church during the Norman conquest and how this enabled William to maintain control. Includes a “go find” activity which can also be used as a carousel with students working on different aspects of the Church. Could also be turned into an investigative commission where Lanfranc sends investigating Norman Archdeacons to report on wrong doings in the Church then writes a report. All info included, no textbook required. Also includes some exam questions and mark schemes/ example answer for 4 marker.

This lesson is focused on why there was a second succession crisis in 1088, why William had a difficult relationship with his son Robert and Bishop Odo. Fully resourced lesson including starter, two main tasks and a plenary/ end of unit summary retrieval Who am I? To test student understanding of key individuals such as Edwin and Morcar, Waltheof, Lanfranc, Roger de Bretuill and Ralph de Gael. Includes a fully detailed worksheet, powerpoint, storyboard template , mini family tree for William (only 3 relevant sons included and Matilda) and fact file on Bishop Odo of Bayeux/ Kent. Also looks at causes of Odo and Robert’s rebellion against William II and why it failed. Exam Board: Edexcel GCSE= can be used for other boards.

Ireland the Good Friday agreement / devolved power 1998 Scottish Independence 2014 European membership 2016 I have not included AV 2011 but this would also be a good one to look at as it gave govt a mandate to reject electoral reform but 2015 brought fresh demands to reform after most disproportionate election results. KS4 USA Divided Society or KS3 lesson Life for African-Americans Examines the nature of the WASP vs non WASP discrimination in the USA Jim Crow laws and impact considered and the rise and fall of the KKK Includes a video link to the Greenwood Tulsa race massacre in 1921 to show that African-Americans both prospered and suffered. Includes a colour code debate sheet.

Designed for KS3 but can be adapted for KS4 Lesson on reasons for and consequences of prohibition in the USA during 1920s. Includes a colour coding task, sources task and simplified sources for SEND students and analysis of why prohibition failed.

Edexcel Politics ALevel Component 3 USA Comparative Politics This is lesson 2 in my Unit on the Supreme Court and examines the nature of the nomination process, factors which influence the President and strengths and weaknesses of the process. Examines how independent the SCOTUS is and arguments for and against. Includes case studies on nominations of Amy Coney Barrett and Ketanji Brown Jackson for students to research, key examples from the past 75 years, video links to explainers/ examples and an essay plan on the question: Evaluate the view that the nomination process for the Supreme Court is fit for purpose. The essay plan is part completed for students, they have to use their knowledge from the past few lessons to complete it. Edexcel ALevel Politics Component 3 USA Politics Comparative Topic 4 Supreme Court and Civil Rights This is my Introduction lesson to the Court and key terms e.g. Stare Decisis, Loose/ Strict Constructivism and Originalism. Includes a key profile of the current court for a research homework and how they ruled on key cases e.g. Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Board of Health and New York state rifle assoc. v Bruen which cover key aspects of the divisive issues in the USA today e.g. abortion rights, gun control, voting rights, immigration and campaign finance. All the SCOTUS cases I cover are useful case studies for other topics due to the synoptic nature of the ALevel course, this helps students to join the dots. This mega 2 hour lesson plus hwk examines how powerful the POTUS in the USA is for the key debate to end Topic 3 Includes retrieval of past knowledge re: President, note taking and discussion about unilateral actions of POTUS and limitations of these. Discussion/ ranking task of factors which can hinder/ help a POTUS achieve aims and a debate/ table of arguments about how imperial a President is alongside the discussion of whether a President may be described as Bifurcated. Introduction lesson to Voting Behaviour and the Media This lesson introduces students to the concept of studying voting behaviour and examines factors which may affect voting behaviour. The idea is that students are then given case studies to produce and present on an individual election. Includes powerpoint on intro lesson which covers 1979 and 1997 key case studies as an overview of what happened in each election. Edexcel Politicsc ALevel Paper 1 Feedback Note: This mock exam feedback and modelling is for the 2023 Paper but for Questions 1a/b and 2a/b only as I don’t teach Ideologies. This feedback powerpoint has common mistakes and key content for the exam questions 1a/b and 2a/b including a full modelled paragraph using the PEELE structure with clear evaluation and mini judgments. Also includes a purple pen response sheet with the modelled paragraphs to highlight and then space to write their own / example conclusions. Very detailed!

Edexcel GCSE lesson for Weimar and Nazi Germany- can be adapted for AQA or iGCSE Could also be used for ALevel as a base to build up. Lesson examining the impact of the Enabling Act and the Night of the Long Knives and how Hitler consolidated and strengthened his position to make himself a dictator The lesson begins with a consolidation/ recap of Hitler becoming Chancellor and the Reichstag Fire decree/ impact. Then it looks at how Hitler used the Enabling Act to attack trade unions and political parties before his purge of political enemies and the SA. Also includes a practice of a “how useful source” Question (although with just one source to save time- includes a model answer highlighting task for a cartoon source. Looks at how and why the Night of the Long Knives happened in 1934 and the Death of Hindenburg which enabled Hitler to name himself Fuhrer Very detailed, complete lesson- no additional resources are needed. Also includes a bonus video sheet for the Rise of the Nazis Episode 3 (BBC) but obviously I cannot include the video for copyright- however if you don’t have access it doesn’t matter- you can use a documentary on youtube or just use the slides.
