Investigating Recurring and Terminating Decimals

Investigating Recurring and Terminating Decimals

(2)
Students simplify the fractions using prime factors and then they use a calculator to convert the fraction to a decimal. They then look for patterns in order to work out what the rule is for whether a fraction terminates or recurs. The aim is to spot that once in simplified form, a fraction will recur if the denominator has any factor other than 2s or 5s. This activity is based on one from a 1967 calculator handbook. It interleaves prime factorisation, simplifying fractions and using a calculator. It deepens students’ understanding of how fractions are simplified and leads to new knowledge about recurring decimals.
Trigonometry Homework

Trigonometry Homework

(2)
This is a Pret homework for trigonometry in right-angled triangles. In Pret homeworks, pupils practise, recall, extend and think. These homeworks are typically followed in class with spelling or memory tests and discussions about research findings. For an editable version of this homework and Pret homeworks for many more topics, see http://prethomework.weebly.com/.
Changing the Subject of Science Formulae

Changing the Subject of Science Formulae

(2)
I made this resource for a borderline set of Year 9 students to help them practise the basics of changing the subject. I wanted to give them some physics formulae but didn’t want anything too complex, so made this little worksheet.
Calculator GCSE Revision Mats

Calculator GCSE Revision Mats

(2)
Higher and Foundation Calculator GCSE Revision Mats. Questions come from old AQA Linked Pair Papers. Both Word and PDF versions are provided so you can edit if needed.
Sequences Homework

Sequences Homework

(2)
This is a Pret homework for sequences. In Pret homeworks, pupils practise, recall, extend and think. These homeworks are typically followed in class with spelling or memory tests and discussions about research findings. For an editable version of this homework and Pret homeworks for many more topics, see http://prethomework.weebly.com/.
Thinking about Gradient
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Thinking about Gradient

(2)
This worksheet is designed to be used in (or in advance of) a first lesson on calculus, before introducing differentiation from first principles. The aim of this worksheet is to explore what students already know about gradient and open their minds to the idea of finding the gradient of a curve.
Poisson or Binomial
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Poisson or Binomial

(8)
11 questions in which students have to decide whether the distribution is Poisson or Binomial. Could be used with mini-whiteboards. The animation reveals the correct answer on each slide.
C2 (Edexcel) Quick Facts Quiz

C2 (Edexcel) Quick Facts Quiz

(4)
A quick quiz of key C2 facts, useful for a warm-up in a revision lesson. Aligned to the Edexcel specification. If you want an editable version, please see the Core AS library on my blog.
Quadratic Inequalities - Spot the Mistake

Quadratic Inequalities - Spot the Mistake

(18)
Created for the new GCSE specification but also suitable for AS level and iGCSE, this activity requires students to identify errors in quadratic inequality solutions. It is designed to highlight and tackle common misconceptions.See resourceaholic.com for more ideas and resources for teaching this topic.
Simplifying Algebraic Fractions Homework

Simplifying Algebraic Fractions Homework

(3)
This is a Pret homework for simplifying algebraic fractions. In Pret homeworks, pupils practise, recall, extend and think. These homeworks are typically followed in class with spelling or memory tests and discussions about research findings. For an editable version of this homework and Pret homeworks for many more topics, see http://prethomework.weebly.com/
Compound Interest Introduction with Scaffolding

Compound Interest Introduction with Scaffolding

(0)
I found lots of resources with wordy exam-style compound interest questions, but not much for students who need more support. This was made for a borderline H/F Year 9 class. It was used during lockdown, hence the instruction at the end to input answers to a Microsoft Forms quiz in order to check them. The link is provided in case you want to duplicate the quiz. An editable version of the resource is provided in case you want to remove reference to the quiz. This practice resource followed on from a basic introduction to compound interest - the following lesson looked at wordy questions.
Inequalities homework

Inequalities homework

(1)
This is a Pret homework for solving equations involving inequalities. In Pret homeworks, pupils practise, recall, extend and think. These homeworks are typically followed in class with spelling or memory tests and discussions about research findings. For an editable version of this homework and Pret homeworks for many more topics, see http://prethomework.weebly.com/
Labelling the Hypotenuse
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Labelling the Hypotenuse

(2)
I couldn’t find an introductory Pythagoras activity where students have to label the hypotenuse that included non-right angled triangles, so I made one. Either for students to complete themselves (perhaps a bit quick for that!) or an activity on the board. The main point I want to make here is that only right angled triangles have a hypotenuse, and we need to see the right angle labelled to know a triangle is right angled.
Angles in Polygons Homework

Angles in Polygons Homework

(1)
This is a Pret homework for angles in polygons. In Pret homeworks, pupils practise, recall, extend and think. These homeworks are typically followed in class with spelling or memory tests and discussions about research findings. For an editable version of this homework and Pret homeworks for many more topics, see http://prethomework.weebly.com/.
Solving Simultaneous Equations Graphically
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Solving Simultaneous Equations Graphically

(0)
A basic worksheet on plotting graphs to find intersections. I adapted the linear sheet from another author to add tables of values as my students needed this scaffolding. I also made a short worksheet with two basic quadratic graphs to plot as all the other resources I found on this had trickier quadratics. These sheets are relatively short so I used both in a single lesson. I have included editable versions so teachers can adapt as necessary.
Investigating Skewness
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Investigating Skewness

(7)
In this activity pupils calculate the median and mean of three data sets and consider whether mean or median is the better measure of location in each case. This prompts class discussion about the impact of outliers in a data set. A number of other discussion points may arise - see notes.\n\nThis activity could be used at the start of a lesson on skewness. A word copy is attached for editing if required.
