Mathematics Revision Cards/Activities Book

(3)
A 39 page resource of the revision cards/activities I have used with my classes when finishing topics or when revising for exams. Included in the resource are templates for you/your students to create your own revision cards. There are over 10 different revision cards to create/use. I have also provided examples/pictures of cards I have made, and some they have created too! All instructions to create each card are included in the resource. Read more and see examples here -> http://goo.gl/zjtTxU

Properties of Quadrilaterals Plenary

(0)
This is a plenary activity I do when teaching Properties of Quadrilaterals. I use my ABCD Fans (see my free resources) for this, but mini whiteboards would work just as well. 10 questions to test students knowledge on the properties of quadrilaterals.
Mr Collins' Mathematical Stories - 'The Pythagosaurus Rex'

Mr Collins' Mathematical Stories - 'The Pythagosaurus Rex'

(1)
This is the first of a series of 'stories' I have written for my students. This story involves some dinosaurs ('trinosaurs') in the shapes of common triangles. The 'trinosaurs' love to work out each others' perimeters and areas but have trouble working out their areas when they don't know their heights - cue 'The Pythagosaurus Rex' - who helps the other 'trinosaurs' work out their missing lengths (heights) using Pythagoras' Theorem. The story includes explaining how to find the perimeter and area of triangles (no trig involved), then explaining Pythagoras' theorem and some questions to attempt (answers at the back of the book). All pictures hand drawn by me! I show the story to my students at the start of teaching Pythagoras and get them to read it aloud in class - can be quite fun as it's a change from 'the norm'.

Takeaway Homework Menu - Mathematics

(0)
This is my 'takeaway homework' menu I give to my students. The pdf contains a ready to print version of the menu to give straight to students. The idea is that they choose any task to complete for their homework from the menu. I set these homeworks over a half term and students have to earn a set amount of 'chillies' in these weeks. On the ppt file I have an editable version of the menu for you to change my name etc to suit your students - this can then be printed as above. I also have many examples of work from my students to use for inspiration as to what can be created. There are also some display logos and ideas from my current display board in the word doc. See my blogs below for more details! http://goo.gl/hSj1ER http://goo.gl/s6YAln I love this approach to homework and so do my students.
Mathematical Plenary Sticks

Mathematical Plenary Sticks

(1)
A set of 100+ Plenary questions/tasks to use in your Mathematics lessons. Print, cut up and laminate each page of this resource before hole punching and binding the ‘sticks’ together for plenty of use in your lessons. Included in the resource, in addition to the 100+ questions/tasks are blank ‘sticks’ for you to create your own questions/tasks, plus suggestions as to how best use this resource with your students. Read more here...http://goo.gl/J2LYSe
Mathematical Team Battles
paulcollinspaulcollins

Mathematical Team Battles

(0)
10 different Mathematical ‘battles’ for your class to play in teams via the IWB. Students (in teams), on mini whiteboards, answer the questions on the grid shown. In turns, teams suggest the correct answer to the question(s) and the teacher then changes the colour of that question/answer to that team’s colour (green or blue). The team with the majority of the grid wins. Tiebreaker questions are included. All answers are also included in the resource as well as the teacher instructions on how the animations/controls work and possible variations on how to use the resource.

Mathematics 4 pics 1 word - Pi Day

(6)
This is a resource I have created for Pi Day 14/03/13. I have taken inspiration from the popluar app '4 pics 1 word&' and from the likes of @reflectivemaths, @srcav and @El_Timbre on Twitter. I use the resource with mini whiteboards to get students to write the word and the definition of it. Diff by hiding/revealing the letters to choose from. see http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk for more info.

Mathematics 4 pics 1 word - Circles

(0)
This is another of my 4 pics 1 word resources that I have created having been inspired by @reflectivemaths and @srcav. The words in this presentation are radius, arc, sector, segment and chord. Good for literacy across the curriculum. I use these with mini whiteboards as a starter activity - students write down the word and their definitions. Diff by revealing/not revealing the letters for each set of 4 pics.

Mathematics 4 pics 1 word - 3D Shapes

(9)
Based on a popular app, and having taken inspiration from the ideas of @reflectivemaths and @srcav, I have created my own Mathematics version to add a bit of literacy across the curriculum.\nThis set includes the words: cube, net, face, edge, vertex, construction and triangle. I hope these are of use as starters to introduce topics. I used them with mini whiteboards and got students to write the word and a definition for it. Differentiated by hiding letters to choose from initially and then revealing them if class struggled. For low ability I would reveal letters at the start.
KS3 Data Handling Project

KS3 Data Handling Project

(11)
This is a 6 week 'homework&' project I have created for my set 1 Y9 class. I have saved the ppt as a pdf to give to each of them as a guide to their h/w over the 6 week period. The idea is that this guidance allows them to create their own data handling project including as many aspects of the topics we have covered in class as possible. For more information on how I intend to use this and the feedback once I have had all projects submitted check out my blog:\nhttp://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk

Based on a popular app, and having taken inspiration from the ideas of @reflectivemaths and @srcav, I have created my own Mathematics version to add a bit of literacy across the curriculum. This set includes the words: letter, equation, formula, identity, and expression. I hope these are of use as starters to introduce topics. Differentiated by hiding letters to choose from initially and then revealing them if class struggle. For low ability I would reveal letters at the start.

Mathematics 4 pics 1 word - Polygons

(13)
Based on a popular app, and having taken inspiration from the ideas of @reflectivemaths and @srcav, I have created my own Mathematics version to add a bit of literacy across the curriculum. This set includes the words: quadrilateral, hexagon, pentagon, octagon, interior, exterior, degrees, sum, regular and irregular. I hope these are of use as starters to introduce the topic of polygons and then look at the interior and exterior angles of regular/irregular polygons!?
Mathematical Concepts Wall Display

Mathematical Concepts Wall Display

(0)
This is an idea I got from the Wellcome Collection in Euston. Students choose one or two of the words on the reverse of the card (will need to be printed double sided) and then these get displayed on the wall display - A display created solely by students having printed off the cards! To see more about this view by blog post at http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/mathematical-concepts-wall-for-want-of.html
Mathematical Advent Calendar Template

Mathematical Advent Calendar Template

(0)
This is a template I created for students to create their own Mathematical advent calendar. The idea is that you print off the front sheet, students cut around the dashed lines to open the 'doors&', they then stick this sheet onto a blank piece of the same sized paper. Then, they write mathematical calculations, sums, equations etc on the &';doors', the answers to which will be the numbers 1-25. They then write jokes, fun facts, pictures etc in the &'doors&';. Let me know what you think.

This is a PowerPoint I created based on the resource uploaded by Manoj Mistry, which can be found here http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/GCSE-Revision-of-basic-skills-powerpoint-6173598/, I have changed the layout of questions to break them up and have added GCSE grades to each question. My Year 11 class have responded well to these slides!

(1)
Here's a set of 50 Mathematics Taboo Cards I have created; easy to change the Key words/taboo words as needed. I print these out, laminate them and then use them in class for revision or as a starter activity to engage students. Good for literacy across the curriculum.
