Mathematics 4 pics 1 word - Circle Theorems

Based on a popular app, and having taken inspiration from the ideas of @reflectivemaths and @srcav, I have created my own Mathematics version to add a bit of literacy across the curriculum. This set includes the words: circle, segment, alternate, chord, intersect, angle and centre. I hope these are of use as starters to introduce topics. Differentiated by hiding letters to choose from initially and then revealing them if class struggle. For low ability I would reveal letters at the start.

'Flappy Bird' Data Handling Lessons

This resource includes 2 videos of me playing the game 'flappy bird&' and a [updated] notebook file for possible lessons you could then teach, based on the videos. The videos could be the start of a series of lessons to collect, represent and compare data. Videos are linked to my YouTube Channel (mrcollinsmaths). Any other suggestions as to how the videos could be used are greatly appreciated. See my blog http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk for more info.

ABCD Plenary (or starter) Fans

I have created a class set of 'ABCD Plenary Fans' to use as a plenary/starter in my lessons. I have uploaded the file I created to create the fans themselves. I printed and cut out enough of the arrows to double side them before laminating and then fastening with paper fasteners. Then, I created the multiple choice Plenary presentation to use with the fans - all you need to do is add in the questions and answers. See my blog post for more info http://mrcollinsreflectivejournal.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/abcd-fans.html

Diff by hiding/revealing the letters to choose from. see http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk for more info.

Here's a starter task I created using Batman & Superman and Shrek & Donkey. The idea is for the class to use a Venn Diagram to compare the 2 superheroes/characters. I have used this as a starter to finding the HCF and LCM of 2 numbers as well as a starter to teaching Venn Diagrams

GCSE Revision - 'Tip of the Iceberg'

These are a series of revision lessons I have put together following a literacy exhibition lesson I observed. The idea is that you show the students the 1st slide on each & ask what is implied by the image - what could they be asked to do in a GCSE exam question if they were presented with that image? Following their ideas, there are lots of different questions using the intial image. For more information on how I have used these with my classes see http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk
