This is a mock test that I use with adult students. It is from an older version of ECDL but the word processing tasks are still relevant to those learning the fuctions availble within Word.

I use this exercise when starting in Excel. The students have normally done Word already so are familiar with the formatting toolbar. I then go on with this to practice inserting and deleting rows and columns in different ways (so they can see when eyes and noses disappear) We also do drag and drop – turning our face into a jigsaw by dragging out the features and then dragging them back. You can also go on to working with the format cell menus to add borders for glasses, or a moustache … Hope you have fun with this.

This is a sample test only. The students task is to prepare a circular letter giving notice about an upcoming annual general meeting of a club. In the test they are asked to modify the letter, to apply various formatting actions to it; and to carry out a mail merge operation so that the circular can be delivered to all the members of the club.
