An A-Level Chemistry resource on Enthalpy of Combustion. It’s a revision quiz which requires groupwork. Students are required to solve questions as a group. The winning group is the first to complete all 16 questions. Students breing the answer to each question to the teacher, if correct they then progress onto the next question. Questions get harder as students progress. The resource is edited so that it can be printed off and takes 5 mins to cut out and prepare a class set.
A GCSE Chemistry knowledge organiser on topic 2 structure and bonding suitable for the new 2018 GCSE AQA syllabus. Contains information on the structure and bonding of ionic, simple covalent, giant covalent, graphene, fullerenes, metals and alloys. Includes descriptions and diagrams of their structure and explanation of how their strucutre links to their physical properties (melting & boiling points, conductivity etc.
A worksheet for A-Level Chemistry on the reactions of the group 7 elements, students have to complete the equations and write in any observations. Also included is a starter on physical properties of the hydrogen halides.
A Starter activity on the A-Level Chemistry topic Transition metals. Students are given several definitions of a transition metal and need to rank them in order, giving explanations why why they have done it in that order. An excellent activity that challenges their understanding on the structure of transition metals and works well as a discussion starter for the lesson.
An A-Level Chemistry resource illustrating the reactions of the transition metals as spider diagrams (with ligands like hydroxide ions, ammonia, chloride ions etc). The first resource is spider diagrams which students have to fill in (in word format and prints out automatically in A3 from your computer). To accompany the feedback of answers, an animated Power Point is also included allowing the teacher to go through the answers in more depth, with each answer fading into view on a mouse click. Includes reactions of Copper(II), Chromium(III), Iron(II) and (III) and cobalt(II). The resource is editable and answers are included to every spider diagram in Power Point format.
A revision activity for the new AQA 901 Science GCSE. This one is on the topic C1 Atomic strucutre. Contains quick fire questions on the all of the topic. Takes about 20 mins to complete with and nicely covers the key terminolgy of the topic. I use it as part of a revision lesson on the topic. Answers are included.
An A-Level Chemistry resource which can be used as a starter/plenary on spectrometry. Student are given various physical data (melting point, solubility, rotation of polarised light, elemental analysis) and spectra (IR, NMR, Mass spec and pH). Students have to pull all the information together to identify the compound. The unknown compound is an amino acid, so it consolidates knowledge on chirality, solubility, zwitterions, pH and then understanding of the various spectroscopic techniques. takes about 10 mins for students to complete, answers are included on the last slide.
A bundle of two sets of flash cards for the Edexcel A-Level Chemistry syllabus. Covering topics 17 and 18a (Carbonyl and Benzene Chemistry.) Cards will print back to back and take 5 mins to cut out using a slicer.
A Mass Spectra fragmentation table illustrating both the radicals lost and the ion responsible for the m/z values given. Helps students analyse a mass spectra.
A Card match exercise for A-Level Chemistry Transition metals. Students cut out and then match up the transition metal complex reactions and associated colours. Cards include reactions with hydroxide ions and ammonia. Answers are included.
An A-Level chemistry knowledge organiser on Infrared spectra. Contains everything the students need to know about Infrared for the new Edexcel 2015 syllabus including: Examples of spectra for OH, C=O, COOH, C=C, C-H, N-H functional groups. Also includes a data table of absorptions and information on the types of stretches (asymmetric, bending etc). Information about how molecules bonds vibrate is also included.
A playing cards activity which has questions on atomic structure and periodic table. Students can play different card games which also test their knowledge. Students liked playing black Jack where they could only twist and receive a card if they got the question right on the back of the card. There are several games that my students enjoyed playing with this resource. Foundation and higher game cards are included.
I used this with my year 13 class and they loved it. An excellent revision resource. Students have to answer a question on Ecell if they land on a star. Question cards on Ecell are included in this resource.
A set of flash cards on the Edexcel A-Level topic 6abc Chemistry of the hydrocarbons. Covers questions on the chemistry of the alkanes and alkenes from topic 6abc including the mechanisms, reactions, conditions and formulae. In Power Point format, the resources will print out ready to go, takes 5 mins to cut out the cards and the resource is formatted so that the answers are printed on the back of the questions. Simply print back to back for question and answer. Theres >100 cue card questions.
