Equations from a Straight Line Worksheet

(3)
Double sided worksheet with 24 straight line graphs for pupils to write down the equation of. ranging from positive gradients to negative, and then fractional gradients. EDIT: I recently did a lesson on this topic with some higher set year 11’s, so have produced a second, harder sheet that includes axes with different scales, forcing pupils to use “change in y/change in x” to find gradient instead of just going one across and counting squares. The new sheet is only one sided, but is more suitable for higher attaining pupils. Answers now included.

Reading Scales Complete Lesson

Reading Scales Complete Lesson

(0)
NOTE - For some reason the preview for the powerpoint lesson plan seems to show the formatting weirdly (some textboxes look too small etc.), however when I download it and open the file it looks just as it should. Complete lesson on teaching pupils to take readings from scales (including decimals), with both Powerpoint and SMART Notebook versions. Fully differentiated worksheet included, with a slide of extra challenging questions to display on the board and stretch the upper end of the class. Blockbusters game included as an alternative activity. I have broken down the process of reading the scales quite a lot, you may wish to delete that part from the example slides and set it out yourself if you have your own preferred way of teaching it. I would also recommend checking to see if the starter questions need adjusting for your class, though I have tried to keep them quite generalised.

A differentiated worksheet for decimal division using bus stop method. Pupils can choose which section (out of 3) to attempt based on their own confidence. This sheet includes questions on both dividing decimals by whole numbers and dividing by decimals. In the red section the "bus stop" has been set out for the pupils for all except the last four questions. In the amber section pupils need to set it out for themselves, with a worded question at the end. Averages and Range - Minimally Different Questions
prof689prof689

Averages and Range - Minimally Different Questions

(0)
Four worksheets of mean, median, mode and range where the questions change only slightly each time. Two sheets per slide, designed to be cut down to A5. The purpose of this is for pupils to start looking at (facilitated as needed by the teacher) the patterns from question to question and start predicting the answers based on the change in the question rather than just working it out as normal. Includes negative numbers and decimals. Answers included.
Order of Operations Codebreaker
prof689prof689

Order of Operations Codebreaker

(0)
A fun and engaging codebreaker activity in which pupils must evaluate calculations using the order of operations in order to crack the code and reveal the joke. Ideal for consolidating skills, pupils will race to complete this task and delight in telling you how terrible the joke is. Answers are included, as is the original Publisher file to allow for easy editing should you wish to do so. Joke should read once completed: “What did one toilet say to the other? You look a bit flushed!”
Linear Equations Bingo Collection
prof689prof689

Linear Equations Bingo Collection

(0)
Collection of my various bingo activities on solving linear equations. These bingo games are always popular have regularly engaged my pupils in lessons, and they have often requested that we do them again. Pupils draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book and fill it with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often. There is an activity on one step equations, two step (including fractions), equations involving brackets and equations with unknowns on both sides. Can easily be reused by changing the order of the slides.
Times Tables Connect 4
prof689prof689

Times Tables Connect 4

You could also use post-its or counters for this. First pupil (or pair) to get a line of 4 correct answers wins!

Place Value Bingo Activity

(0)
Engaging bingo activity based on place value. There is a mix of questions focusing on turning words to figures and finding the value of an underlined digit. Bingo is always popular with pupils and I have regularly used them in my lessons - my students have often requested them, or that we do them again after the first go. Pupils can either draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book, or you can print off some of the blank grids at the start of the powerpoint. They then fill their grid with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often. For replayability, the slide questions can be rearranged so they come up in a different order.

Area of a Circle Lesson Plan - Low Ability

Area of a Circle Lesson Plan - Low Ability

(1)
A lesson plan for SMART technology I made on the area of a circle for my bottom set year 10 class. Because it is a weak group I have broken it down into only using radii before extending to having to work them out from the diameter instead. There are a couple of harder questions at the end for class discussion.
