French Easter Lesson - Vocabulary, Games and Traditions - KS3 + KS4

(2)
Excellent lesson, introducing / re-capping French Easter vocabulary and traditions. Fully animated and very attractively presented. Lesson is fully differentiated with ‘Challenge’ and ‘Want support’ options for learners as appropriate. LA and HA worksheets included within bundle. All answers provided and support for teacher in ‘Notes’ section of each slide. Emphasis on fun, independent learning. Students are asked to match French Easter vocabulary to the English equivalents to begin, then repeat the words after the teacher (create a team points game from this activity if you wish with actions). Students are then asked to match a phrase to the correct image, using letter cards or by writing a letter on a whiteboard. A reading text then follows, with questions linked to Easter celebrations and traditions in France. At the end of the lesson, a Pictionary slide is set up to review learning, and also an Easter Egg Hunt game, whereby if students answer questions correctly, they can choose a square to hunt for 15 golden eggs. Took four hours to make! A huge time saver!

Creative Cultural Lesson (Cooking) - Parent / Carer Consent Letter

(0)
A bundle of two letters, advising Parents / Carers that their son or daughter will be taking part in a cultural cooking lesson, and asking for consent and a voluntary contribution of £1.50 to cover materials. A great time saver! Easily adapted to suit the activity you have in mind. The letters are set up for French students to decorate and ice a 'Bûche de Noël' (Chocolate Yule Log) and German students a 'Lebkuchenmann' (Gingerbread Man). They were originally used at Christmas time alongside a cultural comparison regarding Christmas celebrations. A hugely popular activity that students never forget! Letters have also been adapted to make crêpes with French year 11 students and pizza with year 7 Italian students. Great fun and wonderful bringing the language to life in this way!

Letter home to Parents / Carers - French Penpal Scheme

(0)
A fully-prepared letter, ready to edit with your name, job title and e-mail address to send home to Parents / Carers regarding the implementation of a penpal scheme with a school abroad. The letter outlines the importance of safeguarding (i.e. that all communication should pass through school only), and asks Parents / Carers to sign and return a slip indicating that they are happy for their son or daughter to include a photograph of themselves in their letter to their penpal should they wish to. A huge time-saver! Easily adaptable for other languages, simply substitute 'French' for the language your students are learning.

Colourful, editable posters to advertise a spring / summer Fete or fundraiser, and to display next to stalls and games, giving information about cost and instructions on how to play. Stall Posters and Activity Instructions PowerPoint is 23 slides, with posters and instructions for activities such as a Raffle, Knock the Cans Over, Cupcake Decorating, Photo Booth, Chocolate Tombola, the Golf Game, Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar and the Bonus ball Lottery! Mon lapin de Pâques: KS2 + KS3 Easter Worksheet

Mon lapin de Pâques: KS2 + KS3 Easter Worksheet

(0)
Mon lapin de Pâques: KS2 + KS3 Easter Worksheet. Great resource, asking students to look up body parts of a rabbit and some Easter vocabulary before translating phrases that link these two together with colours. Students are then asked to colour in a large picture of a rabbit according to the instructions they have translated ( for example 'le nez c'est rose', 'les fleurs sont jaunes et rouges'). A great lesson for KS2 and beginners at KS3 (year 7 / year 8). Differentiated with 'Challenge' option linked to gender of nouns and unusual body part vocabulary ('la queue'). Great fun to teach - cut-outs of rabbits can be used for a display or to make into French Easter cards.
Pâques, une fête très chocolat: Easter Text, Worksheet, Questions, Video and Research Project

Pâques, une fête très chocolat: Easter Text, Worksheet, Questions, Video and Research Project

(0)
Pâques, une fête très chocolat: Excellent lesson on Easter, touching on history, tradition and chocolate, based on a French text from the ‘1 jour 1 actu’ French website (full link on top of worksheet). Questions include multiple choice answers based on comprehension, linguistic challenge (such as selecting synonyms) and research tasks that can be developed as fully as teacher wishes (particularly useful for KS5). A second worksheet asks students to reflect on a video on how chocolate is made (link on worksheet) and to answer a separate set of questions to work on their listening comprehension. For KS5 learners, I recommend playing the video straight through twice after modelling the first answer. KS4 learners would benefit from the video being paused several times to allow them to note down the answers. A full A4 page of vocabulary (divided into paragraphs to match those in the text) is provided to support learners who would benefit from this help. Increase challenge by withholding from learners. As I did not author the text I have not included it on the worksheet, however the link for the text and for the video are both there. If students have their own devices, they can access an electronic copy in class, or a paper copy could be printed for them by teacher. Great fun to teach and fully differentiated!

Reading, mini whiteboard translation and writing activities follow, with 'être' song to re-cap verb in present tense if teacher wishes. Splat game to review learning at the end of the lesson. Plenary Triangle Templates

Plenary Triangle Templates

(0)
A set of seven plenary triangles to use with students to review learning. Offers a great insight into areas of confidence and understanding and next steps in their eyes. Can be used with post-its and stuck onto the board before students leave, noted into books or onto whiteboards (a question at a time works well), or orally as a think-pair-share to get feedback. Really helpful to inform planning, especially with challenging topics.

Observer Servers - Group work peer observation and reflection

Observer Servers - Group work peer observation and reflection

(0)
Presentation guiding students through the process of peer observation of behaviour in group work and the effects on learning. Based on the activity in the excellent 'The Teacher's Toolkit' by Paul Ginnis. Used to great effect, a real behaviour-for-learning changer and very insightful for students. Definitely worth doing! I use every year with each class to install values and bring attention to the ripple effect of any behaviour that doesn't support learning. The feedback makes much more of a difference coming from their peers rather than me! Use alongside a group activity (for example a reading text and questions), and allow time at the start of the lesson for an explanation and a full reflection at the end (15 minutes+).
