A series of lessons aimed to develop scientific investigation skills in KS3 students, would be good for year 7/8 or lower ability year 9 or for revision for higher ability year 9.
Lesson scheme as follows:
1-3. intro investigation skills and compression strength of biscuits-planning, doing and analysing (3 lessons)
4.which biscuit has the most energy
and/or
4.dunkability of biscuits (which biscuit can be left in the longest without breaking/ absorbing the most liquid without breaking
5. density of chocolate bars floating and sinking
6. making tea method writing
7. tea investigations-shape, stirring or temperature of water.
A whole lesson on animal behaviour covering imitation, imprinting, reflex, conditioning and instinct.
Two investigations- woodlice and observing animals
Lots of video links for examples
A powerpoint covering a few lessons on osmoregulation, looks at:
1. the structure of the nephron
2. role of the nephron in osmoregulation
3. role of ADH in osmoregulation
A full lesson revising the cardiac cycle (from year 1) and the control of the cardiac cycle, with details of the role of chemoreceptors and pressure receptors.
A powerpoint of a sequence of lessons on slime (either using borax based or cornflour based slime).

A task aimed at developing extended writing in science. Based on old GCSE 6 mark style questions.
Writing frames and markscheme are within the powerpoint.

A powerpoint with a full set of lessons for a pre-GCSE unit preparing year 9 students for GCSE. Recapping content from KS3 and overlapping with GCSE content. Contains all the tasks and worksheets as slides at the end of each lesson slide sequence. Links to experiments and videos etc within the PPT.

3-5 Communicable diseases-project work (HIV, ebola, malaria etc) 1 lesson into plus 2 lessons project
6-8 Non-communicable diseases- project work 1 lesson into plus 2 lessons project
9. Impacts of lifestyle on non-communicable diseases (e.g. alcohol on liver disease, diet and heart disease and smoking on lung cancer/ diseases
10. Diet, nutrition and exercise – BMI
11. Obesity and malnutrition
12. Nervous system and Nervous system diseases
13. Endocrine system and Endocrine disease
14. Intro to genetics and Genetic diseases
Whole lesson on the structure of a neuron.
