'Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl'/The Holocaust (Workbook and Homework Units)

Fantastic Fantasy-Study guide and Workbook
This resource is used in conjunction with 'The Never-ending Story III' slideshow on Fantasy novels. It talks about important and reoccurring themes in the Fantasy genre such as: heroism, loyalty, quests, motifs, magic,good vs. evil and reality vs. fiction. I had previously used this with my Year 8 class and it seemed to work well for our unit. We based this section on an assessment as well-which produced good scores.
Fantastic Fantasy! Exploring themes in The Neverending Story III
This resource shows themes in classic Fantasy movies and stories. It speaks about three very common tropes in the genre, that being: Courage, Loyalty among friends and Survival skills. My classes loved the movie and the Presentations on the genre itself, I found this to be very useful in refreshing their memories of characters and what Fantasy writing/movies entail.
Improving Your Writing: Figures of Speech
This resource focuses mainly on the use and function of the following figures of speech used in Literature:
Antithesis (Opposites)
Similes and Metaphors (comparisons)
Hyperbole (Exaggerations)
Euphemism (Understatements)
Personification (personal qualities given inanimate objects)

This resource can be used for ESL or mainstream English Language learners. Students watch a short clip of the popular show ‘Adventure Time’ and then answer the set of comprehension, multiple choice or dictation tasks that are provided on the worksheet.
This resource has really helped me to improve my students overall command of English vernacular and idiomatic phrases. It also provides many extended response opportunities both oral and written.
Finally, I use these tasks to also have open discussions about the problems and solutions the characters face, many of which are also problems applicable to the students watching the episode. :)

Critical Thinking Task: Refugees-Allow or Refuse Entrance?
