There are 16 triangles with 18 pairs of questions and answers that make an equilateral triangle. I suggest that the A4 tarsia is printed on card and then the outline is cut out. Students can then quickly cut out the individual triangles. Included are the following topics: organs of a plant, minerals, formulae of chemicals in the photosynthesis symbol equation, limiting factors and chlorophyll. The 'fjsw' file can be opened and modified with tarsia software. The software is free to download but there is not currently a version for Mac computers.

This is a lesson that was taught to year 7 and has KS3 levels 4-6. The learning objectives slide promotes AFL and regular checking of progress in lesson - see my other resources for an explanation. This ppt forms the basis of a lesson on respiration - containing data on how temperature affects yeast respiration. The photo can be used as an image prompt to get students thinking about what they need to make break.\n\nAn older PowerPoint ppt format has been added.

This is a resource for the OCR GCSE Gateway B3 module designed for an additional class up to grades A and without the challenge expected for triple science. There is a student gap fill for all parts of the module (a copy of the spec is attached for reference - pages 52 to 67). Also included is a heart diagram with labels and 20 marks of exam questions based on respiration and parts of the cell (taken from AQA but relevant to the OCR spec). I will add further revision resources in Easter 2014.

The video that accompanies this worksheet has a weblink that is provided at the top of the worksheet. The video lasts for 3 minutes and 38 seconds so it is suggested that either the video is regularly paused or shown twice. Keywords and numbers are provided in a wordbook printed on the sheet. Challenge questions prompt students to analyze the digestion system such as why it should have a large surface area. It is suggested that students peer mark their work and AFL can be through the score they achieved or the number of challenge questions answered correctly. This is a lesson that is designed to develop higher level thinking on photosynthesis. This could be used at KS3 or GCSE and would fit into a scheme of work where the students have previously covered photosynthesis. In this lesson students are introduced to the thoughts of Thomas Malthus who said that resources (e.g. food) limit the growth of the population. Students are then given a task where they need to compare four plants and decide which plant they would recommend to farmers to grow. They need to justify their choice by referring to data from the sheets - such as saying that plants with longer root hairs will absorb more water and minerals or that plants with a greater density of chloroplasts would photosynthesis at a greater rate (assuming that CO2 etc are not limiting). This is a levelled checklist for graph skills that year 7 and 8 students should be able to do. I use this the second time that I teach year 7 graph skills. It helps promote inclusion. This is a resource that I created for my year 10 students to think critique their performance on each question of an end of topic test. This can be easily adapted to all types of test for KS4 and KS5 A level. The page setup is A4 so page 2 of the presentation can be printed and stuck into student books.
