Bell Ringers or Class Starters are highly effective in achieving the following: Establishing a regular routine: By starting with these tasks, students enter the class and prepare themselves for work, fostering a productive mindset. Reducing transition time: Minimize wasteful time between classes, ensuring a seamless transition and maximizing instructional time. Settling students: Having clear expectations helps minimize behavioral issues and ensures readiness for learning, especially for students who thrive on routine. Developing essential skills: These activities focus on editing and writing skills that are transferable to various assignments and tasks. Addressing the hidden curriculum: Our Class Starters also cover spelling, comprehension, language skills, and critical thinking. Whether you call them Class Starters, Bell Ringers, Bell Work, Do Nows, or Warm Ups, they all work effectively in high school English classes! Perfect for Secondary English classes for students in Year 9 - 12. Each weekly set includes the following tasks: Viewing/listening task utilizing a variety of videos and songs. Sentencing task involving sentence combination or expansion. Vocabulary word of the week, including definition, sentence usage, and finding synonyms and antonyms. Writing task focusing on reflective, creative, or opinionative writing. Editing task with emphasis on figurative language recognition and author’s purpose. Please note: This set of Class Starters may contain some examples of British English spelling, though I make an effort to avoid words that may cause any issues.
