I am a Science Teacher with 25 years experience and love producing resources. As one of my HoD's remarked "Your lesson plans and resources are outstanding, if only you could teach as good as your resources." Chemistry is my main subject, but have an interest in Pedagogy, especially CASE (Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education) and misconceptions and how to overcome them.

This resource contains a 40+ page PowerPoint with animations on each stage of a Time of Flight (TOF) Mass Spectrometer, including vapourisation, ionisation, ion drift, electric field and ion detection. It explains how to interpret a Mass Spectrum of isotopes and moleules. Including: How to predict the mass spectrum of diatomic molecules with 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 ratios, with explanations examples and questions. There are questions to check understanding and a sheet of calculations for students to try with explanations of how the answers are calculated.
It contains 4 exam style questions based on AQA A Level questions with answers on the PowerPoint.
Slides have a Learning Objectives linked to the AQA Syllabus so that everything is covered.

This resource is a complete CPD for staff in science departments. It has everything you need, so that the staff are able to plan effective misconception lessons. This is where misconceptions are exposed, challenged and hopefully overcome.
If contains:
27 page ppt to lead the training
Misconceptions sorted into Topics and Key stages (so they can easily be inserted into SoW)
Full overcoming Forces Misconceptions Lesson (worth £2)
Seven activites for Teachers (interactive or participatory)
Numerous examples of how activities can be incorporated into lessons or lessons adapted to obtain and challenge expectations.
An editable Word version of one of my most downloaded resources (Misconceptions Booklet) so that parts of it can be taken out and used for training.
If you’re looking for a Teacher only Toolkit (it’s basically all the resources here minus the CPD activities) click here:

This resource explains how to write the electronic configuration of the first 36 elements in terms of their shells, sub shell and orbitals. It covers the AQA syllabus, but can be used with others. It contains a 30+ page Power Point which explains how electrons fill up the lowest energy levels first, how electrons prefer to stay unpaired and the rather tricky transition metal 4s/3d energy levels.
It explains how to write the configuration for neutral atoms as well as ions and contains a page of questions, based around exam questions from AQA. Questions have comments from the examiners report to say how difficult students in the exam found this type of question.
It also contains:
Periodic Table with all configurations
Student sheet with diagrams on for students to add notes to (or cut out and stick in diagrams)
Help sheet to practice configuration
Question sheet with answers provided on the Power Point
Homework/Extra Questions sheet to challenge the most able
An animated slide that shows all 36 configurations on an energy level diagram and position on the Periodic table.

This booklet is suitable for home learning. It covers homeostasis, reflex arcs, eye, short and long sighted, kidneys, diabetes, auxins, geotropism, phototropism, menstrual cycle, contraception. pituitary gland, thermoregulation, pancreas and a few others.
All the information is there in the booklet for the Homeostasis and Response topic at KS4 at Foundation level (AQA, but is suitable for other exam boards). It may also be suitable for some upper KS3 students. It contains 17 content pages where on each page are keywords and definitions, an image/diagram, example and some simple questions and an extension question.

This is a helpsheet that uses the circle/ring the formula method to stop students from the misconception of changing the subscripted formula. Students can use this to help them answer questions until they don’t need this scaffolding.
There are a lot of balancing equation question sheets, but not many free methods. Hope this is useful.
If you have found this useful, please comment, as it helps other TES user find useful resources.

This resource is a booklet with lists of misconceptions, strategies for overcoming them, and quizzes for ascertaining main misconceptions in Forces, Electricity etc.
Update: Want to test how many Christmas misconceptions your students have? Try this new free quiz here:

It is research based, but written in a practical way and focuses on the use of models, analogies, CASE, interviewing and other strategies.
The most useful part I believe is the lists of misconceptions and a comprehensive index of keywords to help you find the common misconception for that topic/keyword.
