I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. Students translate 40 English to Spanish sentences with the following irregular verbs: poner, poder, saber, tener, venir, caber, haber, decir, salir, hacer, valer and querer. The sentences contain several adverbs of time, such as today, soon and tonight, and the vocabulary used is fairly common, with words such as verbs, secrets, box, friends, chicken and shoes. Sample sentences are: My boyfriend would leave tomorrow, and We would have to study more. The answer key is included. Students learn Spanish vocabulary associated with Ramadan in a fun, hands on way with these 2 emergent reader booklets. Each contains 8 pages: the title page with 7 additional pages. One contains text and images, and the other contains text only so students can sketch and create their own versions of the booklets. The vocabulary included is: mosque, Koran, praying, lantern, prayer mat, crescent and star, and fasting. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first cut, assemble and read the booklet containing text and images. They then sketch and create their own versions with the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary words. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text. 6 pages

This activity provides student practice with ser, descriptive adjectives, and llamarse. Each student interviews a classmate asking for the name and description of people such as his/her mother, father, favorite actor, Spanish teacher, pet, favorite grandma, etc. The interviewers record the responses and then rewrite the information in the 3rd person. A sample question/answer is: Question - Como se llama y como es tu actor favorito? Notes - George Clooney. Guapo, talentoso e inteligente. 3rd person sentences - El actor favorito de Luisa se llama George Clooney. El es guapo, talentoso e inteligente. This can be done in or outside of class and is a good substitute teacher lesson and activity. Student answers will vary, but a sample answer key is included that can be used to prep students for the activity.
