Rene Magritte was a Surrealist painter who was born in Belgium in 1898. He wanted people to look at ordinary things in different ways. He sometimes painted objects in places were they didn’t usually belong. Within this resource students will learn about the artist and create their own collage, digital collage or photomontage surrealist piece.

Pop Art Grid Challenge: Print out 1 artwork by either Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, or Keith Haring. Draw a 5x5 grid on your photo. Using the materials you have, try to recreate the piece on the grid below by drawing one square at a time. Artist’s muse: People say that artists have muses who inspire them to create their work and fill them with a passion for artistic pursuits. Mixing Colours: There are 3 primary colors, mixing them together creates new colors called secondary colors! Try mixing them with paint and see what colors you get.

Leonardo Da Vinci is probably the best-known Renaissance artist, famous for his masterworks The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Students will learn about the Renaissance through colouring & perspective tasks.

Kyle Jenkins is an Australian artists who creates artworks with aspects of conceptual and geometric abstraction involving painting, collage, photography, objects, books, wall paintings and works on paper. Within this resource students will appropriate Jenkins’ work with the colouring in or collaging pages.

Zachary is a contemporary Indigenous artist of Torres Strait Islander ancestry born in rural Australia, who has a love for the ocean and creating artworks which represent his surroundings. Within this resource, learners will learn about Indigenous Australian Art and create a dot painting in a respectful manner.

Henri Rousseau worked a variety of jobs until he decided to paint at age 40. He is considered to be the greatest master of naïve painting. This Art style combines reality with an imaginary universe. Students will draw nature from observation and combine these drawings into an imaginary jungle landscape.

We have recieved many requests for at home Art workshops for students with very limited resources. This portrait proportion lesson inspired by the work of Amedeo Modigliani can be completed with whatever drawing materials students have at home. This includes pencils, paint, crayons or the lesson could even be collaged using old magazines. The lesson includes a worksheet, video, artist narrative, learning about portrait & artwork proportions, step by step instructions & possible final outcome.

Colour  is the element of art  that is produced when light, striking an object, is reflected back to the eye. Claude Monet was a famous French painter and one of the founders of the Impressionism movement. Just as Claude Monet did, the students are to draw or paint one subject matter within their garden during different times of the day. This can include a plant, chair, pond or tree. The learners can do this task over a few days. Differences in weather will give them differences in light, colour & the final artworks.

Ellsworth Kelly used gestural lines to create abstract drawings of plants and flowers. He created contour line drawing that reduced nature to it’s most simple form. The students will learn about different kinds of line in Art and appropriate Ellsworth Kelly by drawing plants using his simplistic style.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Kahlo’s garden and her passion for flora and fauna, inspired a lot of her self portraits. Learners will create a garden inspired, flower-crown self- portrait. This can be drawn, painted or collaged.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter who created imaginative portraits entirely out of found objects such as flowers, fruits, & vegetables. The students are to collect found materials to create portraits. They can use anything at their disposal.

James Rosenquist was a leading member of the pop art movement. He favored huge canvases featuring extreme close-ups of everyday objects, often in vibrant colors. Within this lesson students will create their own Rosenquist artwork & colour in a bakery pop art page.
