This lesson is designed to teach the concept of foreshadowing in literature, why it’s used and how it’s used. This lesson can be used for English Language Learner (EL) as well as more advanced students. This lesson is designed to accompany the concept of foreshadowing in the Prentice Hall Literature series, Copper Level, for middle school students, but can be used as a stand-alone lesson as well. This product contains a seven slide power point presentation, a foreshadowing fill in chart using the students’ own examples from books they have read, and 3 student foreshadowing writing templates. The goal of this lesson was created to briefly describe the concept of foreshadowing, give some examples, and get the students thinking about examples that they have experienced in either books or movies. It is also designed to get students to be able to use the literary device of foreshadowing in their own writing. The powerpoint presentation is editable to meet the needs of your class. Cardiovascular System The Effects of Exercise Lab Activity : Need to get your students up and moving? Maybe even take them outside when the weather is good? If so this lab is for you. The Effects of Exercise on the Cardiovascular System can be used during any unit on the heart or Cardiovascular System. This lab is very flexible as it will work for any level student from English Learner - EL - to more advanced students. This product includes a complete lab, guidelines, answer guidelines and an opportunity for further investigation. Lab objectives include: determining your heartbeat rate by taking your pulse and hypothesizing the effect of exercise on heartbeat rate, comparing your heartbeat rate during rest and during exercise, and analyzing what happens in your body before, during, and after exercise in relation to the cardiovascular system. This lab can cover 1-2 class periods depending on how you want to structure it. Muscular System Flashcards : This set of muscular system flashcards is great for reviewing the muscular system, identifying muscle anatomy, and general muscular system terminology. This product contains 3 sets of flashcards with over 125 individual flashcards. The cards are designed to be folded, laminated, and cut or you can make two copies and photocopy them so they are two sided. All sets can be mixed and matched, and copies can be made for extra sets depending on your needs. The first set contains 18 flashcards with general review questions that go with my muscular system unit. The second set contains 25 muscle anatomy identification flashcards. The third set contains 88 muscular system vocabulary flashcards which include some of the major muscles of the body. Some of the vocabulary includes: epimysium, perimysium, fascicle, myofibril, sarcomere, sarcolemma, endomysium, tendon, aponeurosis, sarcoplasm, actin, myosin, a-band, i-band, h-zone, z-line, neuromuscular junction, t-tubule, crossbridge, isometric, isotonic, concentric, eccentric, acetylcholine, aerobic, anaerobic, oxygen debt, hypertrophy, atrophy, action, origin, insertion, transverse, oblique, extrinsic, intrinsic, flexion, extension, and much more! Prentice Hall Literature Sixth Grade Vocabulary Crossword Puzzles Unit 1-10 : I have developed these fun sixth grade crossword puzzles to teach, re-teach, practice, or assess vocabulary in the sixth grade Prentice Hall Literature, Copper Level textbook. *** You will need at least one copy of this book to read the stories containing these vocabulary words so students can understand the context of the words.*** We have created crossword puzzles for Units 1 through 10, incorporating all key vocabulary words and some additional supplemental literary vocabulary words. There are ten crossword puzzles and ten answer sheets within this product. I have used these puzzles to challenge students to enrich and engage learning. Houghton Mifflin 5th Grade Cloze Worksheet Full Year Bundle Themes 1-6 : This package contains Fifth Grade CLOZE (fill in the blank) worksheets to teach, re-teach, practice, or assess vocabulary in the fifth grade Houghton Mifflin anthologies from Themes 1- 6 (all themes for the entire year). Also included is the corresponding answer key for each worksheet. When we developed these worksheets we used all of the key vocabulary words and some supplemental words. Some of the words were used within the context of each story, and some of the words we used outside of the story’s context to challenge the students and their understanding of each word’s definition. Vocabulary development is a key focus area in the new Common Core Standards, because students must increase their knowledge of academic language by growing their vocabulary. The supplemental materials are third Grade Full Year Cloze Worksheets and Crossword Puzzles : This bundle combines 2 products into 1 for a great value! **** Note: this resource does not contain the stories in the HMH Reading textbook, so you'll need at least one copy of the textbook in order to have your students read the stories and see the words in the context of the stories. First, this package contains Third Grade CLOZE (fill in the blank) worksheets to teach, re-teach, practice, or assess vocabulary in the third grade Houghton Mifflin anthologies from Themes 1 through 6 (all themes for the entire year). Also included is the corresponding answer key for each worksheet. When we developed these worksheets we used all of the key vocabulary words and some supplemental words. Some of the words were used within the context of each story, and some of the words we used outside of the story’s context to challenge the students and their understanding of each word’s definition. We included the key vocabulary words from the following anthologies: Theme 1 “Off to Adventure!” Theme 2 “Celebrating Traditions” Theme 3 “Incredible Stories” Theme 4 “Animal Habitats” Theme 5 “Voyages” Theme 6“Smart Solutions” Second, this package also contains third grade crosswords puzzles to teach, re-teach , practice, or assess vocabulary in the third grade Houghton Mifflin reading themes 1 though 6. Each theme contains either three or four stories per theme. There are six crossword puzzles with your students. Also included are word banks for each puzzle to copy on the back of each puzzle if you desire. I have used these puzzles to challenge students, to enrich and engage learning, and as a center or centers with teacher or parent helpers to teach and provide practice for reading vocabulary and definitions. Vocabulary development is a key focus area in the new Common Core Standards, because students must increase their knowledge of academic language by growing their vocabulary. These worksheets align with the Common Core Standards for Language Arts under Language: Conventions, effective use and vocabulary, understanding words and their relationships, and acquisition of new vocabulary.
