This is a PowerPoint that I made for an observation. It has several different tasks including a differentiated ‘Think-Pair-Share’ task. It also has a modelled PEEL paragraph for the students to observe before they try their own PEEL paragraph while following each step.

Banquo’s Ghost scene is one of the key scenes within Macbeth. This lesson allows students to imagine they are 1) Banquo’s Ghost and 2) The Attendants at the Banquet. This is done by a visual aspect via a video where it allows the students feel as if they are present. They also have to highlight Lady Macbeth’s role in this scene before close analysis of the scene in pairs.

English Language Paper 2 Non Fiction Booklet which can be used for revision or for lessons. There are 6 articles with 20 questions and also a long question focusing on the writers’ opinions and perspectives. There is also an aswer booklet for the 120 questions. This PowerPoint introduces students to the context behind the poem wounds and also the poet. The students complete a ‘Do Now’ and then assess their prior knowledge of Northern Ireland which then leads into discussion. They are given a background to the poet before observing the poem after completing a mini task relating to the title. There is also a YouTube video relating to Bloody Sunday which gives students a visual before completing a task on their first impressions of the poem. This is the first lesson from two where the poem will be analysed in detail-language and structure. *NB: To make this more student friendly, the comment on the Pope was removed-this can be changed at your own discretion.

This PowerPoint is structured with a ‘Do Now’ which recalls students prior knowledge from poetic devices and other questions. It then gives background to the poet before getting students to think about the title and context. The students are then asked to write what the main themes of the poem are. There is a hinge question which leads to a debate as all answers are similar but have minor differences to show what a dramatic monologue is.

This lesson focuses on the final chapter from Of Mice and Men. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. There are also main tasks to consolidate the learning and ending with a plenary. This is lesson 4 from a 24 lesson scheme of work that I have created and is available as a bundle. Included is a 40 page SoW that goes through each lesson.

This is a detailed scheme of work (over 40 pages) that I created as part of our new scheme of work for the upcoming academic year. The SOW places emphasis on the students’ prior learning before this unit and this is mentioned in detail at the start. Each of the 24 lessons have a similar structure and can be easily followed. The lessons for this scheme of work can also be found in my shop and are also part of a bundle.

A PowerPoint which studies key scenes that Lady Macbeth is involved in as part of an assessment question. There are questions embedded within the PowerPoint and also analysis of extracts.

This lesson explores the marriage of Romeo and Juliet at the end of Act 2 Scene 2. There is an extract exercise included where students explorer the connotations and Juliet’s view on love. Also a paired exercise for Romeo’s and Friar’s contrasting attitudes in Act 2 Scene 3.

This PowerPoint in an introduction to Lord Byron’s ‘When We Two Parted’. The lesson poses questions to students in terms of poetic techniques and also what message the poet is trying to portray. It then relates back to the theme of love and relationships before a plenary.

This can be used for an English or Extra English class. Within the PowerPoint it prompts students to think of the context and the books setting. This leads students to use empathy with the characters within the book.

This lesson introduces students to Macbeth by posing questions in relations to historical context and staging at the time. Throughout the PowerPoint students have to answer questions and engage with images from the play to aid them in their understanding of the play as they read it.

This lesson starts by taking students real-life knowledge into account by starting the class by asking students to write how the weather outside makes them feel? The lesson then builds on this knowledge by giving students extra information. The main activity is to read a chapter from The Hobbit where pathetic fallacy is used.

An introduction to Birdsong where there are several exercises to give students a context of the novel.

This is a very good resource that I gave to my examination students who are using recording devices or typing their examination answers. The questions within the feedback sheet were given after their mocks but can be also used for in-class preparation. The answers will give you knowledge of what the student hopes to focus on so you can plan what improvements need to be targeted.

A PowerPoint that I made for my lower ability Year 10 GCSE group. There is a matching activity within the PowerPoint where students use the pictures to find the line or lines of the poem that relates to the picture. There are also opportunities to have your own questions depending on your group and an opportunity for students to practice their presentation skills.

This is a PowerPoint that I used with a mixed ability Year 7 group. This could also be used with a year 6 group in Primary. This is a lesson where students really enjoyed the mixture of many activities that get the best from students and is student-led.
