Angles on a straight line - Mastery Lesson

(13)
A mastery lesson starting with an investigation into how straight lines are formed (incase this hasn't been studied at primary school) building up to the use of reasoning and algebra in questions.

Fortnite Bearings Fun

(3)
If you haven’t heard your students talking about Fortnite then where have you been? 45 million people play the shooter game Fortnite and I can’t stop the kids I teach from talking about it. This activity incorporates lots of different concepts: Ratios/Scales Bearings Speed, distance, time Pythagoras Area problem solving Edit and remove questions as you want. If you print at 100% the scale will be 1.5cm to 250m Otherwise you might have to give it a measure if you print to fit Also: The locations from the bearings are locations required for one of the challenges this season to get them even more engaged. Half my class have taken the work home to finish so they can gain in game rewards EDIT: This is a little out of date now as the map is updated every week but I’m sure students will appreciate the thought all the same

Plotting Using a Table of Values - One-Step Equations with Integer Gradients

(2)
Plotting straight line graphs using a table of values can be tricky. This resource consists of two worksheets focusing on one-step equations. The first worksheet has four questions focusing on all positive gradients whilst the second has four negative gradients. Each worksheet itself is scaffolded three different ways to allow for optimum understanding.
Straight Line Graphs - Finding Equations Bingo

Straight Line Graphs - Finding Equations Bingo

(2)
Bingo game incorporating a range of finding equations of linear graphs questions. This includes horizontal and vertical graphs, given gradient and point, parallel and perpendicular graphs, from two points and given a graph. Two PDF versions, one with answers and one without as well as the PowerPoint version for easy editing.

Vertically Opposite Angles - Mastery Lesson

(6)
A mastery lesson starting with an investigation into how straight lines, about a point and vertically opposite angle facts are linked building up to the use of reasoning and algebra in questions. Code breaker available from here https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/angles-code-breaker-answers-included-11585331 Fiona has great resources check her out. An additional challenge question was used in conjunction with this lesson and is availlable for purchase as part of a lesson found here https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/angles-vertically-opposite-angles-and-missing-angles-11527843

Nuisance Neighbours - Simple Straight Lines

(2)
This logic puzzle involved reading coordinated in one quadrant and being able to name very simple straight line graphs e.g. x=2 y=1. Possible extensions could include, what’s the fewest number of fences you could do it in. House g wants a bigger plot etc. I used this with my bottom set year 10 though is suitable for a variety of ages. UPDATED 4 quadrant addition
Finding the Gradient - By Counting Squares

Finding the Gradient - By Counting Squares

(2)
Finding the gradient of various line segments by counting the squares (not on an axes). Extension questions of which pair of line segments are parallel and which are perpendicular. A good extension to this is cimt mountain tops activity

Angles about a point - Mastery lesson

(3)
A mastery lesson starting with an investigation into how straight lines and about a point angle facts are linked building up to the use of reasoning and algebra in questions. Jigsaw available from STEM - pack 1 page 3

Angles - Among Us Bearings

(1)
If you haven’t heard your students talking about Among Us then where have you been? 100 million people play the social deduction game Among Us and the kids love talking about it. This activity involves using scales and bearings. If you print at 100% the scale will be 1cm to 2m, otherwise, you might have to give it a measure if you print to fit. The worksheet comes in both colour and black and white with answers provided. Among Us is the intellectual property of Inner Sloth, no copyright infringement intended.

Plotting Coordinates - Among Us Coordinate Drawing

(1)
If you haven’t heard your students talking about Among Us then where have you been? 100 million people play the social deduction game Among Us and the kids love talking about it. This activity involves plotting coordinates. This worksheet comes in 1 and 4 quadrants as well as a higher and lower details version (with and without shadow detail). As an extension, in the game characters can have hats and pets. Why not have students plot their chosen hat or pet and list the coordinates for someone else to draw. Finding parallel and perpendicular lines

(1)
Four axes containing a straight line graph to which you have to find the original equation, equation of a parallel line and the equation of a perpendicular line at a given point. A premium version can be found here

Descriptive Writing - A DAMP FOREST Literary Techniques

(1)
This is the perfect introduction lesson to descriptive/creative writing particularly for the start of a gothic writing unit. A Damp Forest is an initialism for a variety of literary techniques: Alliteration, adjectives, metaphor, similes, emotive language etc. This lesson is available in two differentiations. Higher Ability - More independent and already familiar with some of the techniques Lower Ability - Card sort matching of techniques, definitions and exampels for those less able, as well as a writing prompt.

Area and Perimeter of 2D shapes consolidation

(4)
Differentiated questions on area and perimeter of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms and compound shapes. Also some examples of trapeziums though approached as a compound shape. This includes questions on the following: Area and perimeter of rectangles Area and perimeter of triangles Area and perimeter of compound shapes Finding missing sides given area or perimeter of rectangles and triangles Finding missing sides and then area and perimeter of compound shapes Area and perimeter of parallelograms Finding missing lengths of parallelograms and non-right angle triangles Area and perimeter of worded questions Quantity/Cost area and perimeter worded questions Area of trapeziums Area and perimeter of compound shapes including use of negative space and internal perimeters Problem solving and reasoning questions. Some questions from other sources so all rights to their creators

Straight Line Graphs - The Cover-Up Method

(2)
The cover-up method is well worth teaching as it helps with many areas of linear equations. No rearranging to y = mx + c required so eliminating errors Allows solving of equations in the form ax + by + c = d Allows plotting of graphs in the form ax + by + c = d Find the gradient between two points to avoid rearranging OR as a double check Questions designed for a four quadrant grid -6>x>6 and -7>y>7
Angles in parallel lines

Angles in parallel lines

(2)
An angles in parallel lines activity aimed at 11-14 year olds. Variations of the same activity and can be easily adapted. See if your pupils realise it's all within a square.
