English Teacher

The English teacher of the Montessori class is responsible for effective interaction with children aged 6 months to 6 years old through English. This includes group activities, individual activities, outdoor activities, and practical life activities. The classes are divided into two groups to teach according to the UNC Timetable set by the head of UNC. The class is further divided into 3 age groups: Nido, IC, and CASA. Children in Nido classes are typically 6 to 18 months old, IC 18 months to 3 years old, and CASA 3 to 6 years old. Our primary mission is to support children's independence, as embodied in the Montessori principle, "Help me do it myself." 

Supporting the healthy development of children aged 0-6 requires close cooperation among teachers, and we also require the cooperation of parents, whom we invite and encourage to participate. Therefore, teachers in this position need to have a strong sense of collaboration and a love of learning. The English teacher of the Montessori class is required to share each child's English language progress and overall development with parents through weekly letters, one-on-one parent meetings, and other communication methods. 

Duties and responsibilities

Love, care, respect and support children 

From the perspective of children's mirror neurons, every word and deed of the teacher will cause the child to imitate, directly affecting the child's habits and personality development. Therefore, teachers need to maintain good and stable emotions, grace, and courtesy, and use positive language when dealing with children. 

Have a good sense of safety and keep children within sight at all times. 

Be well prepared for group activities that will inspire children's love of English and learning. 

Systematically master the knowledge on how to support the development of children's listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. 

Work with local English teachers to gradually support the development of children's English reading and writing abilities. 

Observe children's activities and adjust interactions with them according to their level and situation. 

Respect each child's personal space and provide appropriate group activities and individual presentations. 

Actively share and communicate with the class teacher, discussing observations and any troubling issues, and work together to find solutions. 

Prepare the environment 

Actively study and research the sequence of children's development in all aspects, as well as the Montessori method and philosophy, and constantly update their own professional knowledge. 

Work with the class teacher to create and maintain a clean, orderly, appropriate, and beautiful environment. 

Maintain consistent rules with the class teacher to avoid confusion among children in the class. 

Home and school communication 

Protect the privacy of parents and children. 

Actively share children's growth and progress in the class through weekly letters and one-on-one parent meetings. 

Demonstrate awareness and ability to constantly update knowledge and foster a positive and optimistic home-school communication atmosphere. 

Active involvement in the school 

Support and promote the school and the IB mission statements. 

Share expertise with colleagues. 

Attend and contribute to all required meetings. 

Know school policies and be able to answer everyday queries from parents. 

Take an active role in school improvement initiatives. 

Actively participate in school activities and publicity events. 

Others 

Submit teaching materials to the head of UNC for review and approval two weeks in advance. 

Deliver classes on time and in a professional manner. 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of UNC. 

Job Requirements 

Have at least two years of related teaching experience, including one year of experience working in a Casa class in a Montessori school. 

Understand the Montessori educational philosophy and be a good role model 

Love children and be skilled in cooperation and flexibility. 

Create a prepared environment for students according to their age and level in different subjects. 

Support children in gaining a sense of order, independence, self-confidence, concentration, coordination, grace, and courtesy. 

Demonstrate mature understanding of the milestones in children's English learning. 

Be proficient in planning and organizing individual and group lessons based on themes and subjects, conducted in stages. 

Be able to independently and professionally conduct one-on-one meetings with parents to share their children's development in English and other subjects. 

Be skilled at observing and understanding children's intentions and psychology. 

Excel in interacting with children while respecting them.
