The Opportunity?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and inspirational professional to join our forward-thinking, open-minded Maths, Computing and Business Team, as teacher of Business and Economics at KS5 (FTE: 0.4).  Business and Economics is taught in the Sixth Form with strong outcomes and we are keen to appoint a colleague who can help develop these subjects at KS5 with a view to offer at KS4 in the future which could attract a TLR. The ability to teach Mathematics at KS3 or into KS4 would be an advantage for those seeking a full time position.


The department is welcoming, supportive and vibrant with a real sense of community.  

Our successful candidate will be a dynamic and innovative practitioner who is passionate for their subject and the impact it can have on a young person’s development and all-round education.


We would welcome applications from existing Business and Economics/Mathematics teachers and also those who are ECTs.


Who are we?

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school. It comprises of two distinct and specialist sites. Our Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to Year 11,  is situated four miles east of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located in the nearby village of Beyton, offering a bespoke centre of excellence for students in Year 12 and Year 13.  

 

A new Principal was started in January 2024 and together with the Governing Body has set an exciting and aspirational vision for the College over the next three years.  The person appointed for this role will be a fundamental part in building on our already Good Ofsted Status (March 2024) and realising our vision to promote:

We require a Teacher of Business and Economics (KS5) / Mathematics who has:

  • A desire to develop their own skills, whilst being a strong team player.
  • Ability to challenge students and encourage excellent progress.
