The importance of Highcrest Academy’s plans is that a good secondary modern has used academy status to become comprehensive, and so breach its local authority’s selective system (“Wealth matters when it comes to the 11-plus, says selective council”, 20 April). Let’s hope other secondary modern academies do the same and offer all parents more genuine choice over the type of secondary their children can attend.
