Chapter one: How Ofqual left teachers ‘disgusted’

I am a great believer in the power of unwitting testimony. Last week you reported an Ofqual spokesman as saying “we have looked forensically at how the new English GCSEs worked” (”‘An absolute disgrace’: schools heap blame for grading on Gove”, 2 November). Forensically? According to my dictionary, “forensic” is “used in courts of law in relation to crime detection”. So Ofqual claims to have detected that a crime has been committed. But by whom? By Ofqual itself?
