(Photograph) - A 14-year-old pupil too disruptive to be taught in a mainstream school is instead on a foundation course to prepare him for a career in the police force. Daniel Crowley, pictured with his mother, Sue, is at least two years younger than his classmates on the uniformed services access course at Park Lane College, Leeds.
The idea came from the Leeds Pupil Referral Service. Wendy Winterburn, a former West Yorkshire policewoman, said: “I had to beg the course tutors to consider him because of his age. But he convinced them at an interview of his commitment. He’ll take part in every part of the course including discipline and fitness. It will not guarantee him a job in the police force but will help him.”
