LITERACY LEARNING GAMES PACK. By Lynne Bostock and Lyndy Cooper pound;20 plus pound;2.50 pamp;p. The Learning Loft. Tel: 01722 334015

Are you looking for literacy activities that a teaching assistant can use with a group, or parents take home to reinforce learning basic skills? The games here are tried and tested, fun and versatile - you can adapt them to fit whichever words or letter-patterns you’re focusing on. As well as spelling and word-recognition, there are games to develop alphabetical order, phonological awareness, sequencing skills and auditory emory. The games were developed over many years by two teachers working mainly with dyslexic children - although all the activities are just as appropriate for initial literacy learning in key stage 1. They went into mass production in response to parental pleas for games to take home.

It is basic but attractive and professionally produced, and the instructions are easy to understand. At pound;20 for 10 games it is also quite a bargain, and should save a great deal of time and effort .

Sue Palmer is a writer and literacy INSET teacher
