NQTs with itchy feet could head over to the States, where New York’s education bosses are desperately trying to sign up British teachers.

There’s just one problem: the schools are in some of the poorest and most rundown areas of the city, including Brooklyn and Queens. But if you reckon you’re tough enough, the education department is looking specifically for “math”, science, English and foreign language teachers. If you’re put off by the thought of those tough New York schools, you could always try a teaching job in France. Just don’t expect an easy ride. According to research carried out by Newcastle University, trainee teachers across the Channel reckon our youngsters are compliant “little soldiers” compared with their French counterparts. You have been warned.
