Last month that scurrilous website The Register (“Biting the hand that feeds IT”) pointed out with some glee that Microsoft had come up with an interesting way of generating extra cash. Its Education School Agreement annual licensing deal requires that every Pentium computer, Power Mac and iMac be counted. The only sticking point is that Macs don’t run Windows, and upgrades for Windows are included as part of the agreement. By strange coincidence, Microsoft tells Offline that from July a new type of School Agreement will be introduced that offers greater choice over the type of machines and software to be included. So no longer will schools be paying for Windows upgrades for their iMacs. Long live the revolution...
