On the subject of electricity, teachers and students at Schonborn High School in Bruchsal near Karlsruhe in south-west Germany are able to get internet access simply by plugging into a power socket. The school is participating in a pilot project run by electricity provider Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg to provide very high-speed Net access over ordinary power lines. The concept has been mooted in Britain but never got off the ground, though that could change if the EnPowerline trial is successful. However, the concept’s appeal could be affected by the number of power outlets a classroom happens to have.
