SOME traditionalists believe that the music room should be one of the few computer-free zones in schools. But that view is now very hard to justify.
In recent years it has become clear that information and communications technology can support composing, performing and music appraisal.
Adrian Pitts, a teacher at
Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls in Kent, is enthusiastic about these developments and has begun a research project on ICT in th 11-18s music curriculum.
He has received funding from the Teacher Training Agency for the one-year project and says that he aims “to identify strategies which teachers can use to raise pupil
performance”.
