THE forces of conservatism need not fear privatisation. Andrew Turner, who works for Labour-controlled Southwark Council’s education department as head of policy and resources, was able to grace the Tory conference in Bournemouth because the political restrictions on council employees do not apply to him.

The rant-maintained sector’s former cheer leader and prospective Tory candidate for the Isle of Wight, was originally employed on a four-month contract, which is being extended on a weekly basis. As a consultant, he is not bound by the rules on political activity that apply to senior local government posts.
