CHRIS Woodhead, the chief inspector, has received almost the maximum of his performance-related bonus for the past three years, according to evidence supplied by the Department for Education and Employment to an inquiry into the schools inspectorate, writes Frances Rafferty.
Mr Woodhead and the Office for Standards in Education are to be inspected themselves by the Education Select Committee. MPs will interview witnesses, including Mr Woodhead, this autumn.
The evidence includes a list of the chief inspector’s personal objectives, which include getting good media coverage of the inspection service and standards agenda. This has raised eyebrows amongst Westminster insiders as servants of the Crown are supposed to be impartial.
