The Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET) has launched a competition - Our Europe - for secondary schools. Funded by the European Parliament and supported by Radio Lingua, it offers the opportunity to win an iPad for the winners’ school and a trip to Brussels.

Teams are made up of four pupils, two from S3 and two from S6. Combining modern languages, modern studies and mediaICT, they are required to create a short film to raise awareness of the positive impact of the European Parliament on the lives of young people in the EU.

To enter the competition, Our Europe: Our People, Our Places, Our Parliament, teams must submit a storyboard outlining the film they propose to make. They then submit an audio or video recording in which they talk through their storyboard. Part of this recording must be in French, German, Spanish or Italian and it should be presented by at least two students - one from S3 and one from S6.

Recordings must be received by SEET by 8 February 2013, before being put forward for judging by representatives from the European Parliament, SEET and Radio Lingua.

The top five teams will progress to the semi-final in early March. They will be invited to take part in a full-day workshop, working with Radio Lingua, media professionals and SEET to create their film using iPads and other resources. Films must be based on the storyboards submitted in the first round and, again, recorded partly in one of the European languages specified.

Two of the five semi-finalists will be selected to go to the final in Brussels where they will visit the European Parliament and present their films to an invited audience, including experts from European institutions and the media. The audience’s vote will decide the winner.
