Vitamin & Mineral Revision Activity (or cover lesson)

(1)
Set of vitamin & mineral revision cards - listing functions, sources & extra facts. Activity sheet where students are asked to use the revision cards to complete tasks e.g. which vitamins are anti-oxidants? Which vitamins/minerals work together in partnerships etc. Including an exemplar exam GCSE 6 mark question about dental health in young children. PowerPoint featuring the answers to the activity sheet - making the activity easy to be set by a cover teacher as they can simply reveal the answers after completion & students can self/peer assess. Students can use the activity cards however the teacher instructs - to take home to revise from, to revise in pairs to test each other on information on cards, to design a menu for a specific need (e.g. those suffering with Anaemia or poor dental health), for class discussions following an instruction e.g. group cards which represent vitamins & minerals that are found in green leafy vegetables - now let’s discuss the relationship between these etc. Activity page can easily be set as a cover lesson as students use the cards to answer the varying tasks on the page before answering an exemplar GCSE 6 mark question. I personally use the activity page to discuss each task in much more detail to establish links with prior learning etc! PowerPoint reveals correct answers.

Warning Stop/Go cards - behaviour management

(0)
Behaviour management cards given with no discussion or eye contact - just placed on desk (after explaining how used at beginning of lesson!) to ensure emphasis is placed on student to make the right decision and minimise teacher wasted time spent managing low level behaviour and not teaching. Front and back of designs to be laminated together. Stop card - Has a 'stop' sign on the front & sentence on the back asking students to change their behaviour and return the card to the teacher after 5 minutes to explain what they were doing that was unacceptable and how they have changed their behaviour as a consequence. Go card - Has a 'go' sign on the front - given to students who have corrected their behaviour to ensure positive praise and feedback when behaviour has changed (I explain that receiving 3 of these means a positive phone call home!). Really successful use - students HATE to get the 'stop' cards but also know that it is a reminder/warning about their behaviour & they are keen to apologise, change their behaviour & give the card back to you as soon as possible!
