OCR GCSE Music - Concerto Through Time - 2 lessons on Romantic Concerto

(3)
These are 2 listening lessons on the Romantic Concerto. They would ideally follow on from my lessons on the Baroque Concerto and the Classical Concerto which are also up for sale.

The first lesson (titled Lesson 6) is all about Tchaikosky's Piano Concerto No 1. The whole lesson focuses on the 'Describe the Features' question on the listening exam that many of my students struggle with as they think it requires complicated answers. Hopefully they way i have taught this has broken it down so students understand even basic answers are correct.

The second lesson (titled Lesson 7) covers the Rachmaninov Piano No 2 and Dvorak's Cello Concerto. There is a card sort activity and the listening questions also include a fill in the blank notes that would appear in the listening exam.

All answers are provided and the powerpoints are easy to follow. If you need more guidance please comment.

Also for sale is a comparison lesson on all three periods of time.

OCR GCSE Music - Concerto Through Time - Comparison Lesson

(1)
Depending on how quickly your students work, this could be one or two listening lessons. This is the final lesson which follows on from my lessons on Baroque, Classical and Romantic concertos which are also for sale.

The first activity is a card sort. I photocopied the table blank onto different coloured card and the answer table onto matching colours and cut all the answers out. The students had to arrange the answers ontop of their blank table. I have repeated this in other lessons as they just get quicker at doing it and its a good revision tool.

Once they have done this they copy out (or you could hand out complete tables) to have in their folder.

The listening activity covers a concerto from each period of time, and the final question is a comparison paragraph question, similar to what would appear on the listening exam.

KS3 Performance Topic - Differentiated Fur Elise Sheet Music and Log - SOW

This is a resource that we currently do with year 7 classes. You could use this for one lesson or use it for a whole SOW. We give them half a term to work on this piece.

Each piece is differentiated and i print them off on different coloured card.
The Foundation is the easiest, with some of the notes from the melody taken out.
The Advancing one uses the whole melody of the Foundation with bass notes in the left hand part.
The Secure uses the melody from the real Fur Elise and the bass notes as in the advancing level
The Excellence is Fur Elise - with no notes given as help and in the correct time signature.

Students start on the level they are most comfortable with, which is usually the foundation but with enough practise they can move up through the sheets.

They also keep a log each lesson, of what their aim is for that day and give themselves an 'attitude to learning' grade at the end of the lesson.Helps to show students' progress when they are doing practical work on an instrument.

Answers are including on the PP.

PowerPoint contains the listening questions and answers and you tube links for each track. KS3 - Performance Keyboard SOW - Year 8 - The Entertainer

(0)
This is a performance module that i do on the keyboards for roughly half a term with Year 8. (I do Fur Elise with Year 7)

There are 4 levels of The Entertainer that i have arranged. The easiest level is 'Foundation' which is basically just the main theme played with the right hand. The next hardest is 'Advancing' which is the same as the foundation but with added bass notes in the left hand, to allow the students an easy progression to playing with 2 parts at the same time. Secure is the next level up which adds in the introduction and the final 'Excellence' adds a few chords into the left hand part.

The idea is that students start on the level they are comfortable with but with practice and over a series of lessons, even if they start on foundation they can still graduate up through the levels to a more difficult part.

All parts have the note names on the music.

I add in a review at the start and end of each lesson to allow students time to reflect on what they have learnt that lesson and what they need to work on the following lesson. This is the Performance Log.
