This PowerPoint is the Informal Letter component of Letter Writing Project I have run with international students for several years and focuses on writing a letter to a cousin asking advice. Although letter writing itself may seem to be a lost art there is still a need for students to know how to write them, especially as exam boards such as Cambridge International Exams, still require candidates to write a letter as part of the English Language Exam. This series of four presentation PowerPoints with classroom activities and homework tasks will show your students how to do just that.

These three PowerPoints are the Quiz that accompanies the ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ PowerPoint presentation. This module was used for several years in Saudi Arabia as part of a Grade 12, American High School Diploma unit of work on the Poems of Love and Hate. As part of the assessment for that course, students had to take a quiz on each unit studies. This package includes two presentation PowerPoints, one with just the Questions and a second with Questions and Answers. There is a further printable PowerPoint with the questions should you want to set the quiz under exam conditions.

‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ is an enigmatic poem which poses as many questions as it answers. Its haunting lyrics have stayed with me ever since I first heard it, sat on the floor of a friend’s bedsit in Camberwell in 1971. The PowerPoint is an excellent introduction to working on the discovery of subtext and it was used very successfully for several years in Saudi Arabia as part of a Grade 12, American High School Diploma unit of work on the Poems of Love and Hate.
