America and Europe topic homework

A wide range of homework options for the topic of America and Europe which we called Stars and Stripes as we were also teaching Space in Science. The activities are broken down into 4 key areas - creativity, exploration, written skills and mathematical skills.

We would give the pupils a full term/ half term dependant on the length of the topic and then host a homework showcase. Parents would come in and celebrate the successes of the showcase and the children would take turns to present what they chose to do. There is a range of activities so even the pupils with disengaged families have the opportunity to succeed. The showcase has been hugely successful at raising pupil engagement and establishing links between school and families. There is a wide selection of options for both a comparison of the Americas and Europe as well as Space. So I’m sure you’ll have what you need if you’re setting homework for either of these and the other can be a bonus for the next time that topic comes around.

Range of homework for English writing

Here is a selection of writing homework that really helped promote the quality of my writing in class. I have also noticed a positive engagement in the number of pupils actually asking for homework and looking forward to seeing the next image. Using a strong source such as a video or imagery has inspirational affects on the learners. It gives them a strong starting position to start and engage positively in their writing. On the back of this, we shared our favourite pieces both to the class and parents. This also greatly developed the endurance of our writers.

The majority are aimed at developing descriptive writing. However, I have tweaked a few so you can see how easily you could adjust them to suit any style of writing.

A simple resource to track the effectiveness of your class library.

Most classes now have a library as well all know how vital it is to promote reading. To raise its value we had class librarians and they would monitor which books were taken and also which books the pupils enjoyed most.

This helps to ensure the books you have are relevant and enjoyed whilst tracking your most prominent readers and the ones that might need time allocated during school to ensure they are reading regularly.
