This sheet was designed to support staff when moderating pupils' maths books with a view to the mastery curriculum - questions encourage teachers to look for evidence of whether a pupil has grasped, secured and deepened (therefore mastered) objectives and also evidence of greater depth. Staff found this very useful when assessing against new criteria and also used ths sheet as a planning page when STP with their year group partners to ensure they planned for all three aims: fluency, reasoning and problem solving tasks.

[This sheet sits alongside our school assessment grids which are referenced within this document - please see other TES resource page for SAMPLES of Y3/4 multiplication/division assessment records.]
Posters displaying symbols representing the 3 aims of the New Mathematics Curriculum. Pupils can replicate simply in their books when discussing which one (or if all) of these skills they are using in that lesson.
Year 6 depth tasks to challenge HA pupils when multiplying fractions - missing digits but also includes mixed numbers so more complicated to solve. Also includes an reasoning question.
A3/A4 mat with the alphabet and various coins on - each letter has a value. Can be used to link spellings/word activities with number fluency and reasoning skills - eg. children can find a 5 letter word with the highest value. Which has the lowest value, why? etc.
A dice game with explanation/example and playing board - players divide a number on the board by the number rolled on the dice and write the remainder as a fraction and/or decimal. First to get 4 in a row wins.
Interactive whiteboard pages for the Year 4 Multiplication & Division unit of work, including clear and detailed explanations of concepts and procedures - both expanded and compact methods - reasoning and depth tasks. You could plan your daily lessons from this resource - it would fit in with any scheme of work your school currently uses. Built around teaching mastery of mathematics.
Y6 division of fractions. A row of mixed equations: divisors as fractions, whole numbers, etc. Students must work out which is not right and explain why, proving the others to be true in the explanation.
Good mastery task.
These can be laminated and used as a timed revision tool for the Y6 Maths topics - children can see how many they can complete in a certain time or you can just ask them to concentrate on one area, eg. the measures area, etc. a nice way to turn revision of key facts into a game to help with SATs.
Interactive whiteboard pages for the Year 4 Number, Place Value and Rounding units of work. Includes clear and detailed explanations of concepts, reasoning and depth tasks. Models place value chairs, the importance of zero as a place holder, etc. You could plan your daily lessons from this resource - it would fit in with any scheme of work your school currently uses. Word problems for Y4-6 which are not obvious due to the way they are worded. Pupils must truly understand what the problem is asking them to do and which operation/s they need to use. Drawing out the problem using bar models is helpful for these.
