<p>An hour long, fully resourced PSHE lesson which is an introduction to independent living. The lesson focuses on how we need to be financially capable and self-sufficient as well as law abiding before we can move away to Uni to study, or in with friends or on our own to start work. The lesson is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities and is useful for PSHE , ASDAN or Life Skills. The pack includes an hour long PowerPoint, differentiated challenge activities, worksheets, clips and literacy focus tasks. These resources have been designed to be engaging, detailed and easy to follow. All our resources are editable (so easy to adapt for your classes).</p> <p>This lesson could be used for PSHE, Citizenship or Life Skills. <p>The Independent Living Series was developed to help students prepare for the real-life challenges of working and living on their own. The first step towards real independence is having a job and making your own money. Getting a Job provides detailed information about what it takes to apply for and get a job.</p> <p>Students will learn how to conduct a job search using websites, employment agencies, newspaper ads, and networking. There are step-by-step instructions about how to apply for a job. Including how to write a cover letter and resume, how to fill out a job application, and prepare for a job interview.</p> <p>The second part of this book follows five young adults on their journey to get a job. Students will get familiar with how to read and understand job postings. They will learn about writing different kinds of cover letters and resumes and how to prepare for a job interview. And then how to evaluate a job offer. The five jobs featured are fast growing jobs that are accessible to most students.</p> <p>Follow-up activities include practical application math, basic comprehension questions to reinforce understanding, and practical writing exercises. Some questions ask students to think about the information given and express their opinions and ideas.</p> <p>The vocabulary section includes a glossary of words and phrases students may not be familiar with plus activities to test understanding of the new words and phrases.<br /> Full color interiors and are editable.</p>

<p>An extended group project for 16+ students, focusing on independent living skills, budgeting and preparing for post-FE transitions.</p> <p>In small groups, students will be given different ‘incomes’ and circumstances. They must make it through a month without breaking the bank, accounting for both foreseeable and unforeseeable costs.</p> <p>The presentation will take the groups through the month, starting with them having to find a new place to live and facing the costs that go with moving. Students will then have to make shopping lits of household essentials, food, etc.</p> <p>The lesson is fairly open-ended and can be adapted easily for different lesson durations and for learners of varying ages and abilities. Students can use the attached budgeting sheets to keep track of their balance.</p>
