Black History Month Assembly!

(2)
This fun and original assembly is designed to teach children all about Black History Month, including: -What Black History Month is; -Why we have Black History Month; -What life has been like for Black British people in the past and what it is like today; -Providing examples of influential Black British people and what they have achieved; -How Black History Month is celebrated. The slides are visually-engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. It includes links to well-chosen videos to emphasise/ reinforce key points, in addition to song suggestions. There is enough here for a 30-35 minute assembly (it is 21 slides long), but of course you can cut bits out/ tailor to your own individual needs. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the assembly is included. I would say that the assembly is ideally pitched at KS2, but both KS3 and KS1 would be able to access it with only minor vocabulary/ language adaptations. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Henry VII's personality and character | AQA A Level History

(0)
AQA A Level 1C The Tudors: England 1485-1603 The aim of this lesson is to evaluate the character and personal qualities of Henry VII and to question how legitimate his claim to the throne really was. The timeline of the houses and York and Lancaster are again analysed, as students are given more information of John of Gaunt’s line and the marriage to his third wife, Katherine Swynford. Using extracts from two renowned historians, students study Henry VII’s character and personality traits to build up more of a picture of what he was like as a person and his insecurities as a monarch. They are also introduced for the first time to some GCE exam question practice. This is their first attempt at a validity question. Some guidance is given on how to approach this and a generic markscheme is supplied to allow feedback once completed. The plenary uses picture prompts to recap on the learning from the lesson. There is an enquiry question posed at the start of the lesson and revisited throughout to show the progress of learning throughout the lesson and subsequent unit of work. The lesson comes in PowerPoint format and can be changed and adapted to suit. The lesson is differentiated and includes suggested teaching strategies.

Year 7: My Personal Reading History

(0)
A good Year 7 lesson for the first week of term to encourage independent reading. You will need at least one copy of Michael Morpurgo’s essay We Are What We Read in which he reflects on his childhood experiences of reading. This is published in Singing for Mrs Pettigrew: A Storymaker’s Journey, Walker Books, 2007. Read the essay with/ to the class without telling them the name of the writer. Discuss the four questions (teacher’s notes provided) and then ask class to guess the name of the writer using the clue in question 4. They may be surprised to learn that Morpurgo did not like books when he was their age. In pairs, pupils discuss questions about their own reading experiences, then produce a piece of writing to describe their own Personal Reading History. A 3-page Word document
