These ice breaker cards are a really good way for students to get to know each other and for the teacher to learn something about their students. I use these cards with all my year groups as I think they are really good to help build up confidence with questioning and speaking to others. There are a numbers of ways to include these in your lessons and I also use them in a competitive way to see who can remember information about their peers

History Ice Breaker activity

(1)
I have used this simple activity for the past few years as an introduction to History in year 7. Though it can be adapted for other subjects. Give pupils 10 minutes to walk around and find people who they a share a hobby etc with. Put a cap on naming the same person twice to avoid friendships. Then go through each question and get their views. This is where you can discuss social History and tell them about topics they are going to learn about.

A nice activity for Year 7 and 8 students to break the ice. It could be used with new GCSE classes too.

The students go around the classroom and ask each other the questions on the sheet. They record the name of the person and their answer to the question. Should last between 15-20 minutes. Simple activity for the first day back. It can be made competitive by offering rewards for the first person to finish.
