This is a Playground Project activity I have used many times before and adapted it to suit the needs of the age group and audience.

I have provided a wide variety of tasks which will hopefully allow all children to develop creativity in their presentation skills and writing tasks.

I have used this as an after SATs activity and it worked pretty well.

This engaging investigation activity allows students to use develop their innovation, creativity and collaboration skills to control the direction of their enterprise project.

The resource set guides students through the entire project, from conception to evaluation, and includes resources/ guidance for the following activities:

A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation guides students through the project.

There are at least a week’s worth of resources in here, enabling students to fully immerse themselves in the project. I orignally have used this with KS2 and KS3 students, but they could reasonably be adapted for students in KS4.

This is a resource book I designed when working with a small intervention group of students in Y8/9 who needed to accelerate their literacy skills.
It’s based upon the Hunger Games film, where each week students watch a small portion of the film and then complete a literacy task based upon this. It’s designed to take 10 weeks/sessions. My students absolutely loved it and once tested again, had demonstrated an improvement in their reading age- a great resource.

This lesson and resource bundle provides all that is needed to aid students in composing their own short magazines, on a subject/genre of their choice. Everything that is needed to teach the project is provided, including engaging lesson powerpoints, worksheets, model examples, and activities, and also comprehensive lesson plans for each stage.

Each engaging and informative lesson aids students in learning about and then composing a different magazine page. Included are lessons on:

- Choosing the Genre and Audience and Composing a Front Cover
- Writing Agony Aunt/ Uncle Pages
- Writing Feature Articles
- Writing Reviews

Throughout each lesson, students learn through defining techniques, identifying ‘what a good one looks like’ and analysing model examples, before using writing help-sheets and success criteria to design their own.

All images are cited on the final slides of each PowerPoint.

Loads of Learning

This is a DT project in which groups are challenged to design an eco friendly product for the home. There are lots of literacy rich elements to the project and some numeracy elements.

I created this as a result of the need to demonstrate how literacy and numeracy skills are being developed through other curriculum areas. The project almost ran as a 'dragons Den' type activity which pupils enjoyed immensely.

The project lasts for a whole day or maybe a lesson a day over a week.

A collection of approximately 20 activities for different books in the project X range - can be used for guided reading, homework or comprehension skills.

A Russian billionaire, Asman Veryrich, has approached you about setting up a new football club!

This exciting, engaging investigation activity allows students to control the direction of their own learning, through speaking, listening, discussing, and reasoning. I initially created these resources to provide something interesting for the students to engage with for their English Speaking and Listening discussions, but it has since been used across Maths, Art and Design, and PSHE departments, as well as by form groups and holiday activity groups, to build teamwork and collaboration skills.

Students get involved in all of the fun aspects of designing and setting up a new football club, including selecting a team of players, a manager, a stadium, and a training ground. They also design the team's club badge and football kits. They also need to use their skills of literacy to read and understand key evidence, and skills of numeracy to ensure that they keep their expenses within budget! What is more, groups can compete against one another to create the most successful team in the league, as all of the resources that they choose can help them to acquire valuable league table points!

Included in this resource pack are:
- Full PowerPoint lesson talking students through the process;
- An 8 page team booklet, used to create their designs and calculate their budgets;
- A pack of 96 player cards and 12 manager cards to select from (a combination of new and classic footballers are included, to ensure that this will never be outdated);
- Budget and recording sheets to track their progress;
- An A3 football pitch to strategise and select their team.

Considering the time and effort that it took to create these resources, I think that they offer exceptional value. Whenever I have used this activity before, it has taken at least 3-4 lessons, including the introduction, design process, presentations, and evaluation. I originally have used this with mixed ability Year 9 and 10 groups, but colleagues have adapted it easily for students of all key stages.

All images have been cited at the end of the PowerPoint presentation and are licensed for commercial use.
This 33-page cross-curricular pack is ideal for the teachers who want to prepare their students for the requirements and the challenges of the century that we live in. The activities cover all the 21st Century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, effective communication, and problem-solving skills.

After the warm-up activities, students watch an ecological rock opera on extinction and answer questions about it. They then
• write a journal entry on how the lyrics relate to the problem in the story and how they give a powerful message,
• write the lyrics of a new song for the rock opera, design a comic strip to convey the message of their song,
• create a video about an animal facing extinction or an animation on environmental issues,
• write a letter to one of the world leaders about environmental issues,
• prepare a 10-minute Ted talk style speech on environmental problems and their solutions for them using the information they have learned,
• conduct a school-wide project on an environmental issue of their own choice.

All the activities are guided and students are given several resources to choose from to make a video or animation, to write the lyrics, to design a comic strip, to give an effective speech, and to prepare an effective presentation.

Most of the activities require group work so that the students can improve collaboration skills. The pack includes a brief guide on how to collaborate effectively and why collaboration is an effective skill. There is also a teamwork rubric that evaluates each student’s performance as an effective team member. There is a rubric for each activity, self and peer evaluation forms, a reflection activity, and a learning journal for the students to fill in.

A lesson plan for a two hour art, literacy and Victorian history project primarily for key stage 1. Features a lesson outline, accompanying notes including planning and further tasks, sample ideas and resources. Encourages children to write sentences about some of the key facts from their study of the era, consolidating their knowledge while honing and enjoying art and craft skills. Some ideas for getting more out of this project if time permits.

A one-page mini project in which students have to make a floorplan and fill it with digital technology. Includes a template for students who struggle to make a floorplan and a slide to show on the whiteboard for a teacher. Suitable for a one-off/cover lesson or a short series of lessons to help students build up their digital literacy skills. The PDF can be ticked and typed into!

This resource is perfect for enabling students to build both their persuasive writing and their speaking and listening skills. Based upon the popular BBC series 'Dragons' Den', students have the opportunity to research, design, pitch, and evaluate arguments for their own inventions, whilst simultaneously analysing persuasive pitches, revising persuasive techniques, structuring arguments and articulating convincingly.

Included is a 16 page booklet (I would say at least 4-5 hour lessons of tasks) that lead students to:
- Introduce themselves and their interests;
- Watch persuasive pitches (links included) and identify persuasive devices;
- Analyse why persuasive devices are effective;
- Structure an analysis appropriately;
- Brainstorm ideas for an invention using imagination and helpful aiding questions;
- Formulate an argument by considering key questions and counter arguments;
- Write and present a persuasive pitch;
- Peer-evaluate and self-evaluate persuasive pitches.

I have also provided some examples of news stories featuring the worst and best pitches from the den, in order to provoke discussion about what makes a strong pitch.

Differentiated 3 ways. Literacy word mat that focuses on the 5 senses. Great resource to use for any writing project e.g. poetry, story writing, BIG writing. Also good resources to print off and keep in class - you never know when you might need them!

Hope you enjoy!

This is an enjoyable Key Stage 2 creative writing English project, which easily contains enough work for up to two weeks of lessons. It can be used at any point in the term, but is certainly a great way to start or end an academic year and provides everything that you need for some productive English lessons.

I have used this in Years 5 and 6, but it can also be easily adapted to Lower Key Stage 2.

The basic aim of the project is for the children to design a strange and unique school, which could be a magic school, monster school, superhero school, etc. There are no limits to how the children approach this and the project leaves plenty of room for creative writing and art work. The project also works well alongside book work linked to schools, such as Harry Potter, Demon Headmaster or Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

There are 6 separate sessions included in the planning and PowerPoint, which can be used over anything from 3 to 10 days - it just depends on how much time you have and how much detail the children want to include!

All teaching resources, student support sheets, planning and differentiation are included, making this a simple and rewarding project to manage. In addition, each activity can be introduced in as much depth as required, allowing the children to then work independently on various engaging tasks.

Included in this resource are:
*21 slide teaching PowerPoint, containing all task instructions, examples of work to discuss and challenge/extension activities.
*9 resource sheets to support the independent tasks.
*Full planning grid, including differentiation.

This is a set of plans which make a whole unit that can be taught over a term or all in one themed week/two weeks as we did at the same time as Sports Day. It guides the children through collecting and using data, designing and evaluating a new sport and includes strong links to literacy throughout. It's easily adapted to suit you and your school.
great for KS3 pupils as part of a project, or single lesson. Could be used for homework/starter/extension task. Assessment box could be used for self/peer or teacher marking.
