This was a Powerpoint I made trying to help students write lyrics, particularly aimed at making it seem manageable for students who were struggling. There is also a worksheet to accompany this (see 'Writing Lyrics - Worksheet). Examples of the songs were found on Youtube. The PowerPoint includes a starter activity asking them to find examples of popular songs from their own knowledge, examples of rhyming schemes and a template for you to model the process for writing lyrics in this method.

This presentation is aimed to give a short overview of the different types of folk music present within the british Isles in preparation for further study of Capercaillie's 'Skye Waulking Song'. It takes about 30 minutes, inlcuding the inset listening tasks. Sound examples for the different types of folk songs are not included, but Ieasily found different examples on iTunes - Kate Rusby is good as an example of a ballad, and look up Hornpipes and Jigs/Reels for the other two examples. The answers from the last activity can be found throughout the powerpoint.
