This presentation is aimed to give a short overview of the different types of folk music present within the british Isles in preparation for further study of Capercaillie's 'Skye Waulking Song'. It takes about 30 minutes, inlcuding the inset listening tasks. Sound examples for the different types of folk songs are not included, but Ieasily found different examples on iTunes - Kate Rusby is good as an example of a ballad, and look up Hornpipes and Jigs/Reels for the other two examples. The answers from the last activity can be found throughout the powerpoint.
