Teacher Monitoring Sheet for Languages in KS2

(19)
I've created a teacher monitoring sheet to track progress in KS2 over 4 years using the differentiated stages of the attainment targets which I have devised.
Please feel free to use it and adapt it as you feel fit. If you do use it, it would be good to have some feedback.
The idea is that the list of names of a class are entered at the start of the first year of language learning and at the end of each year, the teacher indicates, by shading in the appropriate box, which stage has been met.

There is enough content to teach a weekly lesson of 30 minutes in Years 3/4 and 45 minutes in Years 5/6. It is possible to access accompanying resources which include: detailed lesson plans with assessment activities highlighted, interactive whiteboard activities with sound files for all vocabulary items; embedded 'Physical French Phonics' images with sound files; templates for the classroom resources; audio files for the scanned story books and rhymes read by native speakers; accompanying workbooks to download on the Cave Languages website.

Many schools appear to be moving towards a simpler format for the Foundation subjects along the lines of 'emerging/expected/exceeding'. I have tried to write descriptors for these categories for each year group Key Stage 2 based on the Programme of Study targets and the assessment statements I wrote earlier in the year. I've also identified the 'Key Learning Concepts' for each year group. Please feel free to use and adapt as you wish.

French Definite Article Flow Chart

This simple flow chart to determine which definite article to use in French was inspired by a non-specialist primary language teacher observing me teach. His specialism is ICT and the use of a flow chart to develop grammatical understanding and usage works well, I think.

Sounds of English for ESOL speakers

44 sounds of English - a kinaesthetic and visual way to help remember how to pronounce the sound and its IPA symbol.
For each sound there is a memorable action and image with an explanation about the position of the mouth and tongue. Use this to introduce the sounds of English to ESOL beginners or as a remedial tool for the more challenging sounds for intermediate learners. For more advanced learners, use to help decode and remember the sound for each IPA symbol.
Some of the images are from ‘Physical French Phonics’ and ‘Physical Spanish Phonics’ by kind permission of Brilliant Publications.
See more examples here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5LuMyUPHhO-ayerBa8JVBg

There are accompanying Smart notebook files with interactive language activities and the teaching of phonics is embedded within it. Primary Languages - a self-audit tool for schools

(1)
In response to a request to give guidance on what needs to be implemented in a primary school to ensure the delivery of high quality language learning, I designed this self-audit tool. For a variety of categories such as CPD, School Policy, Languages Coordinator etc. , there are 3 statements - Get ready; On your marks; Go! By deciding on a statement which best fits your school's readiness to deliver a foreign language, you can identify what else needs to be done. Please feel free to share.
