Year 4 SPAG mastery

(58)
Each child in my class has a SPAG mastery folder that they keep in their trays and work on every day for 5-10 minutes. They get given a new SPAG mastery sheet each week to go in these folders which has one question per SPAG objective that has been covered so far in the year (term 1 sheets act as revision for objectives covered in year 3). The logic behind this is for the children to master the year 4 SPAG curriculum through repetition. The sheets also feature room for a weekly spelling test to keep everything SPAG related in one place! I double-side the SPAG sheet each week with the handwriting guidelines which the children use to practise writing out that week's spelling words. The sheets can easily be amended to swap around objectives if you have covered them in a different order across the year.

These Year 4 maths sheets work on the idea of mastery through repetition.

I often found that the children in my class understood maths concepts whilst we were working on them, but then forgot what to do when we moved on to other topics. I therefore made these sheets which the children keep in folders in their trays. They are given a new sheet(s) at the start of each week and have dedicated time everyday to work on them including morning and afternoon registration, guided maths slots, extension activities in maths lessons, end of the day finishing off time etc.

The sheets could also be used as a one off lesson to leave with a supply teacher, as homework activities or assessments.

Objectives are gradually built up as they are covered and are then repeated each week to aid mastery. Times tables and related division facts are on every sheet due to the focus on for the year 4 test.

The order of units mostly follows the white rose sequence of units:
Term 1 sheets cover: Number and place value, addition and subtraction
(I’ve also included a calculations week sheet)
Term 2 sheets cover: All of the above plus length, perimeter and area, multiplication and division
Term 3 sheets cover: All of the above plus fractions and decimals
Term 4 sheets cover: All of the above plus money and time
Term 5 sheets cover: All of the above plus statistics, geometry - properties of shape and position and direction
Term 6 sheets cover all year 4 objectives.

You will also note there are some year 3 objectives included - these are areas I have found my year 4 classes to often have the most difficulty with and as such I often need to revisit the year 3 objectives first as a precursor (e.g. telling the time)

Spelling practise sheets

(2)
A compilation of ideas for children in KS1 or KS2 to use to practise weekly spelling lists. I gathered lots of ideas from the internet to make these sheets so I don't take credit for the ideas. The children in my class love them and now look forward to spelling sessions! Could also be used for spelling homework.

AEN task planner

(1)
A daily task planner for children who need the day to be broken down into manageable activities with self evaluation and a linked reward for completing each task. I have included an example of how I have used the planner for Monday but this can be deleted to allow you to fill in as appropriate for your setting. The child I made this for valued time on the computers so his reward was to be given 1 minute for each completed activity, building up to approximately 10 minutes on the computers at the end of each morning. The task planner needs to be printed double sided then folded in half to have the title page on the front and the activity descriptions inside.
