A lesson plan for the extract from the Prelude (book 1) which begins "One summer evening (led by her) I found a little boat..."<br />
Covers context and analysis of the poem.
Planned for a top set but could be adapted.<br />
There is a concealed hyperlink on the second slide - clicking on the picture opens a link to a reading of the poem from the BBC website (with a slight Irish accent).<br />
My class were given a brief biography from a poetry website to find their own contextual information.
This resource looks at the references to Marilyn Monroe throughout Blood Brothers and uses context and biographic details to link her to the characters and how their situations are similar to her own life.
Using wordles to demonstrate the clear difference in Juliet's language use between the beginning and end of this scene.<br />
Students need to plot a graph showing the changes and pinpointing the key lines to annotate the changes in direction on their graph.
This is a lesson I taught to help my year 10 class revise the first 6 poems in the AQA power and conflict section of the anthology.<br />
The revision activities were run as a carousel with 6 minutes per activity (1 minute to read the instructions and 5 minutes on the activity). Pupils were encouraged to try activities which were different to ones they had done before and then took away resources at the end of the lesson to continue their revision independently. These activities could be applied to several texts.
Revision powerpoints for all 15 poems in the Power and Conflict cluster (done in pairs with the exception of Exposure). Context included for all poems.
A PPT and hand out designed to guide discussion about the role of context in writing 1984 and how the linguistic theory of linguistic determinism could be applied to Newspeak. Also covers the content of the Appendix from 1984.
<p>A run through of the context for Remains and some suggested questions to encourage discussion of the poem as part of studying the AQA GCSE Poetry Power and Conflict cluster.<br />
