I have put together a few lessons introducing ‘ma ville’, which I typically do with Year 8 class but it could be adapted for Y7.

The attached document includes:

Introduction of basic vocab (une piscine, une bibliotheque etc) and building up to list-style sentences ‘Dans ma ville, il y a…’

Slides you could use to play ‘beat the teacher’

Slides with images disappearing - I normally show for 30 secs, ask them to memorise and write on a whiteboard

Slides emphasising il y a UN/E but il n’y a pas DE

A text with options in it which I use as a speaking activity, but you could use as a supportive text for writing for a less able group too.

Intro of basic adjectives eg. Ma ville est grande/belle/ancienne

Speaking activity - I challenge them to speak for a full minute and ask partners to tick off vocab they include. They get points accordingly.

An extension/HW activity to look up new places in town in the dictionary

Intro of ‘Je voudrais…parce que ca serait…’ and reasons eg. utile, bien pour les jeunes

Connect 4 grid for practice

Model text with activities

I have put two lessons worth of activities together here. I normally use these lessons with Y8/9 students who are seeing the past tense for the first time. I aim to explain how to form it to give them the freedom to be creative rather than teach set expressions.

The first lessons has slides on:
- starter to match up familiar and cognate infinitives
- list of phrases in present/past for students to identify and recognise patterns
-explanation of 3 parts of perfect tense (person or object, auxiliary verb, past participle) with animations
-links to YouTube videos to help with memorising avoir
-Whiteboard activities to practise writing short expressions eg. I played, he hid

The second lesson looks at irregular past participles:
-translation starter to recap last lesson
-table to complete with infinitives and past participles
-short phrases to practise as a class
-Connect 4 grid for pairwork
-Match-up exercise for recap of time phrases
-Translation exercise incorporating time phrases and past tense verbs.
-Possible extension to write own paragraph.

This builds up to pupils being able to say/write sentences like ‘Le cinema est en face de la gare’.

Slides contain:

A code-cracking stater activity

Introduction of prepositions with images so pupils can guess meanings

explanation od du/de la/de l’

Maps with places in town and Charlie on so pupils can describe where he is and try to get partner to put him in the right place on the map

A speaking activity where partners race to say/write the correct phrase fastest

KS3 French - the present tense

This is a resource that I use with Y7 or Y8 French classes to introduce or revisit the grammar around forming the present tense.
I introduce the pronouns, regular -er verb endings (I call them 'petal endings') and show what to do if you start with an infinitive.
There are a few slides you could print off as worksheets too including circling the correct verb, translating short phrases, putting a text in order and a crossword, as well as some slides you could use with whiteboards to build confidence at first.
For more able classes there are dominoes you could use to introduce them into writing their own text too.
There is enough material for 2 lessons worth here.

Enough for 2-3 Year 7 Spanish lessons introducing pencil case items and colours.

In the first lesson students build up to saying 'En mi mochila tengo _____, pero no tengo ___', with a variety of speaking activities and a simple worksheet to complete. Pencil case items are introduced with images and there is a connect 4 game for practice in pairs.

In the second lesson there is a link to a YouTube video that introduces the colours and a worksheet you can print out for them to match up. We then briefly discuss how/why colour endings change and apply the rules in full sentences.
There is also a simple reading text pupils can use as a model paragraph and writing criteria.

I use this resource with Y7 classes to introduce sports for the first time.

It goes through the following steps and could possibly be split over two lessons, especially with a less able group.

Introduce Juego & cognate sports

Secret sentence game in pairs (guess partner’s sentence)

Slide with images for game where teacher taps image and says phrase.
This is a lesson that I normally use to introduce the grammar of the present tense to an able Year 7 class or as a recap with Y8/9 pupils.

I start by introducing pronouns and verb endings and slowly building up to adding correct verb endings. Most vocab used should already be familiar or decipherable eg. Je fais de la gymnastique, J’aime faire du sport, Ma soeur regarde la tele.

This builds up to a translation exercise, a text for pupils to put in the correct order and questions linked to it, and finally a structure for a written paragraph.

This could be spread over two lessons or a lesson + a homework.
