Y7 Spanish - sport/deportes

I use this resource with Y7 classes to introduce sports for the first time.

It goes through the following steps and could possibly be split over two lessons, especially with a less able group.

• Introduce Juego & cognate sports
• Secret sentence game in pairs (guess partner’s sentence)
• Slide with images for game where teacher taps image and says phrase. The class repeats if the phrase matches the image.
• Introduce ‘Practico’ + 8 more sports
• Discuss the difference between and when to use juego/practico
• Connect 4 grid for game as a class or in pairs
• Introduction of time phrases and linked to days of the week eg. el sabado por la manana
• Choice text - teacher chooses one of 3 options from each box and students try to guess starting form the beginning each time. Pupils can repeat in pairs.
• A slide giving criteria for pupils to write their own paragraph (could be HW)
